  1. The devs made pretty thorough download guides, but if people want, I can make a video version walkthrough. If enough people want it, I'll upload the video to my YouTube channel.

It would basically be the same as the dev post, but I think a lot of people aren't that good at reading long posts, especially in a 2nd language.

  2. I propose a section of this forum dedicated to sharing and commenting on replays. (Obviously this shouldn't be a priority because the open stress test comes first.) This would be something like the devplatform or cardbase, but would be a site for uploading and finding specific replays.

Someone recently asked me for some replays. I was going to refer him to bfcards.info, but it looks like that site has been taken down. Hence the need for a new site. (btw, if anyone knows who ran bfcards.info, please refer him to this thread)

bfcards.info was a place where people uploaded replays, and others commented on the replays and voted (1-5 stars) to help people sift through and find relevant replays to learn from.

If anyone has a backup of those replays (or has other replays saved that they want to contribute), then let's use this thread to coordinate the sharing of replays. I know several players such as @RadicalX and @Anonymos have shared some replays from their personal repository with me, but I want a more centralized location.

One way or another a replay-sharing page needs to be built. I can't think of any reasons that the devs wouldn't set it up on this forum (eventually), but if they don't there's nothing stopping us from independently setting up such a site.

So let's discuss some useful features! I think each replay uploaded should include

    1. Map

    2. Time of match

    3. orbs played

    4. player names and ranks (at least approximation of ranks)

    5. date played/uploaded

    6. If it's ranked/unranked or part of a tournament

    7. comment section and 1-5 star rating from viewers

    8. Tags

And we should probably create a list of pre-made tags that can be easily searched, like "long t1" or "t1 rush" or "no t3" or "big t3,"  etc. I hesitate to suggest tags like "no lamer" because that might cause some flame wars. . . .

So what do you guys think are any other features that should be in the Replay Repository?

And until a repository is set up, if anyone has replayed uploaded to google drive or dropbox or anything, feel free to share them here!

Well, this user was here first https://forum.skylords.eu/index.php?/profile/2466-farrock/

    So we have a  @FarRockBF and @FarRock

I'm inclined to believe the 2nd is the real person....

Is there some kind of rule against impersonation?

The launcher is opening for me but after I press play the client closes and nothing else opens up. :/

This happened to me a few times.

    1. Are you running in administrator mode? This may help.

    If that didn't work then

    2. Put the client inside a new folder OUTSIDE of your program files folder. After one of the updates, I couldn't access the game. After creating a new folder and moving the client (and all relevant files) outside of program files, it worked like a charm.

Hopefully one of these methods works for you.

Hey guys i want to Stream BattleForge while the Stresstest and after, but the problem is (im using obs) the software wont show the Battleforge screen if i use the Game-Capture option. And if i use Screen-Capture the Stream is just showing one picture so its not fluently. Can somebody help me ?

Try running OBS as an administrator? I used to be able to stream just fine, but since they implemented the updater I've had to run OBS as an admin.

If game capture works, it's almost always the best option. Depending what version of windows you're using, you may be able to get monitor capture to work (okay) by using disable aero (and putting the game in not-fullscreen).

  6. I've been toying with an idea for quite a while now:  I think a deck's strength depends a lot on your skill level and the skill level of your opponents.

For example, stonekin. A lot of mid-to-lower ranked players struggle against stonekin because the knockback is too difficult to deal with. Getting around razorshards is really micro-intensive, and if you're playing below the skill level where your opponents can micro around it, the deck is super strong.

Another example: pure fire is extremely powerful against mid-ranked players, because the strategy is simple: attack. If you lose the attack, you lose. If you win the attack, you win. You're never really in doubt about what the right decision is. (Pure Fire is also a top-tier deck at the highest levels, but that's when you're good enough to play a super aggressive t1).

Pure frost is also very strong against mid-ranked players, because most players below Legend rank are not very aggressive in t1. Since aggressive t1 players are frost's biggest weakness, the metagame improves the faction.

IMO, fire-nature is very strong in lower levels and high levels, but has some weaknesses in upper middle levels. At low levels, the fire nature player can just attack and because it's a fairly offensive deck, the attack usually succeeds. Once you start to play mostly Lost Souls players (around legend, and a few ranks below), the deck is weak because LS outscales FN, so you need control of the game starting in t1.

Lost Souls is probably the best deck at all skill levels. It's super versatile and can be played in many styles. "Turtling" is very, very effective against most midranked (and lower) opponents (unless this opponent is trying to play a super aggressive deck). The deck's defenses are good at all levels. The t3 scaling is incredible, with cards like timeless one, grigori, and shield building. At mid ranks, surviving until t3, then playing a bunch of churches of negation and timing out your opponent is a very powerful strategy (that doesn't work at all against top opponents).

  7. NAME: No Team Chat
    SEVERITY: 2
    LOCATION: Lobby
    REPRODUCIBILITY: 100%
DESCRIPTION: There is no team chat. I didn't report this earlier because I thought the devs removed it, but the symptoms of team chat are almost exactly like the group chat bug. It's not a click down option, and if you type /team it turns the distinctive blue color, but says you are not in a team (even in you are in a group, or a 2v2 group).

Team chat DOES work once in a 2v2 match (but it used to be even in the lobby).

Match chat does NOT work even in game (except it does work for a player if he gets a group chat bug--but then it displays it as a group chat for the others)

What should happen: team and group both work in lobby or in game. Match only works in game.

  8. Erm . . . in PvP? If you're looking for advice, the megathread of guides might be helpful.

In terms of general advice, I'd say the tactics and playstyle should depend on what kind of player you are, and what deck you're using. You want to make sure you have S, M, and L counters in every tier. And in PvP, you don't want to go to t4. Like you said about initiative, going to t4 is too slow and a good player will immediately destroy you for it. Same with something like juice tank, and towers in general are bad because they're slow and defensive--PvP is much more about good offense!

If you want to use towers, you can play shadow and spam phase towers (but that's super lame, so please don't). Phase towers are okay because they can move. Ice shield tower is good in some decks, if you really want it. You can also try a super defensive style in pure frost by using northstar, or in pure shadow by using church of negation (a strategy I personally hate).

My favorite strategy is to surprise people with vileblood, rogan kayle, and firestalkers. Basically because those are 3 cards that everyone thinks are weak, so it's a nice surprise attack.

    (I'd probably be better if I stopped trying it though . . .  :) )

    @llunsyx

Do you mean with added cards and stuff? You can see the FAQ for more, but I believe the devs currently don't plan to add or patch anything.

The game was relatively stable for a while before it shut down--it might not be perfect, but I know a lot of people will come on and claim that a card is broken and it's just because they haven't figured out how to play around it yet. There was also some concerns about copyright and EA shutting us down if we modified the game, but I think those worries have been put to rest.

So maybe after the game is up in full release and we give the devs a year, along with a backroom of players/testers, we might get new cards/patches :). Or not.

Or were you asking something else?

  10. Update: I'm still missing 1 common card (172 cards out of 173?) with 2500 common cards total. I now have 22 purple and 10 red frostbites, which leads me to  believe it is just a statistical anomaly... not sure about that last common card I'm missing though.

Not sure what the other 2 are, but I have enough cards to have 11 purple frostbites and 0 red frostbites. That distribution seems really strange to me, especially with 1300 cards. I'll keep pulling cards and update my distribution.

Let me introduce you to a small example: if I am the top 50th ranked player in the game how is it fair for me to be only at the 85th place in the rankings? Because the top 20 players don't dare play other things on their main accounts and thus have 2nd and even 3rd accounts and can beat me with different decks anytime because their knowledge of the game is broader.

@DuellLord brought up a good point, that if he sticks to a single color on a smurf he can see how good he is with that color. Previously, i thought it would be good to add multiple character to the game that would not be able to participate in ranked, but . . .

What do you think about having multiple characters that function as normal (except they share cards, etc. to prevent quest abuse), but only the highest ranked version shows up on the scoreboards? In other words, if you have 3 characters that are ranked higher than me, on your account you might see rank 9, (12), (35), but I would only see rank 9. Some other person would "actually" have rank 12 and 35. So if I saw my ranking, I'd see the number of people with more ELO on their highest character than me.

Cant you just lose 2 games while trying the new deck , analyze what u could have improved on , cool your head by playing with your main deck to bring you elo back to your average/peak and after that try the experimental deck a few more times , and just repeat that.

Under the assumption that I would like to play a brand new deck (example: I played exclusively fire nature and my pure frost is so bad that I completely forget about kobold trick and glacier shell), you won't learn anything if you play against top players and get crushed immediately.

To properly learn the deck, I should play against players where I have a roughly 30% winrate. I believe this is the ratio for maximum improvement (although 50% is probably more recommended because most people aren't motivated to withstand 70% loss rate). Because you learn from what you did right, what you did wrong, and you can see what you can do better. If I lose in 30 seconds because I don't know how to defend as frost against a very good fire player A). he outclasses me by skill so much that I wouldn't even know what I did "wrong" and B). I would never get to learn how to play t2, t3, or even late t1.

Under the assumption that I want to play 2 games (for fun) of a different deck and go back to my main deck: nobody wants to lose 2 games in 30 seconds. That's not fun for anyone.

Other thing, what @RadicalX and @Eirias mentioned: wait a minute, don't tell me you were annoyed during the battleforge was live because of messages. While you're only a high ranked player you can always put those who bothers you to your ignore-list. As a moderator IMO you have the right to tell them to not bother you. Also, as far as I know only those can see if you are online who added you as friends, and those who actually check the list on the top right, which shows who are standing in the same chat-server as you are.

No, I wasn't, but I wasn't making videos then either. I recall in conversations with FarRock (the most prominent BF youtuber in the old era, for other forum readers who might not know) that he would sometimes get annoyed by the frequency at which he was messaged on his main account--and I don't think he even had 1,000 subscribers. He was a large proponent of smurfs, and often used them to escape his "fame."

Actually, come to think of it, I did sometimes get annoyed by messages in game. I played a lot of 2v2, many times with much weaker players. So there were nights when 5 or 6 players might ask me to play some 2v2. Most of the time I didn't mind this of course--and i think it would be really cool to get messages ingame from youtube fans. But sometimes I just want to play for 30 minutes and relax after a grueling day of tests, and being guilted into carrying a beginner in 2v2 wasn't what i wanted to do. And then of course I'd feel bad if my main partner came online. It would have been nice to just switch to an account where only my 2-3 main 2v2 partners knew me, and otherwise I'd have anonymity.

That's not my main point though. The situations where I'd be annoyed that a beginner contacted me are pretty rare. Mostly I was annoyed because I wanted to play 1 or 2 games of sparring with an experimental deck and even though it was level 20, lower ranked players would kick me from their sparring games. Of course I have no objection if I wanted to actually grind a new deck out, and I experimented with all sorts of things in ranked. But if I just want to play some frost t1 with MA and northguards for 2 games, then go back to my regular deck, I would either have to play against someone that would crush me 30 seconds into the game, or get kicked over and over in sparring.

  14. Well, the MOST IMPORTANT youtube channel is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZLtgBj59SBfIZzcYWbxJVg

This is a channel that the top battleforge content creators are working together to create a single youtube channel, which will hopefully become big enough that outsiders will see it and become interested in the game. Unfortunately atm, it's mostly just me uploading :(, although @LagOps has uploaded in the past, and I believe @RadicalX will assist soon...

I have a personal youtube channel and twitch as well, which I'd like to give a little more love once we have more people helping. Those channels are:

Shortly put, we endorse neither of those actions. There has been a lot of discussion going over this in the past, and we are of mind that smurfing heavily disrupts the ranked PvP scene and will, especially with an even smaller community that will rely heavily on newcomers, result in an insanely unfair PvP environment where matchmaking doesn't even matter anymore due to the sheer amount of artificially low-ranked pros dominating the entire game because they don't dare to face any opponents matched with when trying something new. This is not what ranked PvP is made for. Ranked PvP exists to test your PvP skills comparatively to people at the same level of you. Whether this is regardless of decks is debatable, but this is why unranked PvP exists, why there are Sparring Grounds. It's even in the term; Sparring Grounds. Sparring in boxing (and fighting) means that you're not landing your blows heavily so you can train. The same goes for the game; Sparring Grounds are for training your PvP skills without being judged harshly for it by the matchmaking system. This is, very briefly and shortly put, why we are against multiaccounting and it will result in bans. Smurfing destroys the purpose of the difference between ranked PvP and Sparring PvP, and your training needs are easily resolved by testing your new decks out in Sparring instead.

So, are you scared of losing your ELO because, skylords forbid, you are using a somewhat unconventional deck? Go to the Sparring Grounds. They are literally made for this exact purpose.

    Just to play devil's advocate here . . .

Back in the old days, it was impossible for me to try out a new deck in the sparring grounds against people at "my level." Even though I wasn't in the top 20, beginners could see my rank and would immediately kick me when I tried to join a game. For a while I was trying to learn pure frost (I literally had a deck level 20 without ice guardians) and I wanted to play around with people at a level where I could learn how to play the deck, but they would always get scared and kick me. Or if they did play me and they beat me, the would start chatting to me and telling me how I wasn't any good and I must have cheated to get my rank. Basically it was a pretty unpleasant experience and I could only spar against my higher-ranked friends, but of course they would destroy me if I tried to play a deck I fundamentally didn't understand and that didn't give me much opportunity to learn.

As @RadicalX said, in a small community, your name becomes well known very easily. As an important moderator, will you be able to have "peace" and just play the game, or will you be constantly barraged with messages and friend requests and invitations? The same will likely go for top ranked players and prominent forum members/streamers/youtubers.

I agree with RadicalX's solution: give each person 2-3 characters. In fact, the best solution would probably be to share all assets between those characters, so the only thing that changes is the name and ELO (this way you can't get extra bfp by multiaccounting). To get even fancier, perhaps those alternate accounts could not have an ELO at all and be prevented from entering ranked games--or if they did have ELO, the calculation of the opponent's score would be based on your highest character's ELO (this might lead to rating inflation though).

TL;DR: Playing sparring as a recognizable player is not as easy as it sounds. I recommend allowing multiple characters that all share bfp, cards, upgrades, and quests  but are banned from ranked, so that players can test things in sparring with anonymity.

Or maybe you can just enable an "anonymous" mode, where your name and rank is hidden but you can't enter ranked. (but then @Anonymos will have problems :))

  16. Wow, no one's touched this in a long time....

With the recent influx of PvP players making videos (I've seen @RadicalX and @FlameForge make their own channels), we might want to decide rules for who should contribute to the community channel, etc. I think like 90% of the videos on there are mine right now....

I like awkwardly have 3 youtube channels, and I post most of them to the community channel...which means that most people only watch the community channel ones, and ignore the replays on my Eirias_BFR channel. So I'm trying to figure out if I should cut back on posting in the community channel to let "new blood" into the community channel (which means I'd post 70-90% of my videos on my personal channel, instead of vice versa), or I can continue to post most videos on the community channel, and turn my personal channel into something for strange replays, livecasts, Smash4 and other games, etc. Why do y'all think?

My takeaway message from this: Golden cards in BattleForge confirmed :kappa:

On a more serious note, the ratios do seem to better fit the objective of the game, however, in the old BattleForge there were many promos that were not so called regular promos, that existed since the beginning but rather promos that have been added through certain events or expansions. Some of these promos are rather bleak and have been added for no other reason than promoting another game ( Lord Cyrian) comes to mind, therefore have not been very well designed or/and do not really serve a purpose in the game. Balance wise in the case of Lord Cyrian it is a very expensive cost per its stat and does not really fulfil any particular role both in PVE and PVP. Therefore, it could be argued that such a card would cause some players so feel that they did not really get a promo due to its very limited usage and useability.

It would be great to clarify whether the team might consider such special cases of promos not being very worth to open and possibly these promos would be reserved to be distributed another way.

My vote for Lord Cyrian is to take him out of boosters and provide him as a starter card. That way everyone gets one (all you need) and players get a strong t3 XL if they really really want one in their deck.

Looking forward to more stories, nice one

Do you prefer if it was animated, or if there is the random gameplay in the background? I think I'm going to try working with my girlfriend to get an animated story out about once per month (or maybe more as we get the hang of it), but ofc it would be much faster if I didn't have to worry about the visuals.
