    Greetings Skylords!
    Happy Anniversary! Today marks the 1-year anniversary of the Skylords Reborn project. We hope you had a lot of fun reliving your BattleForge memories and are excited to give you a look into the future. 

    • Anniversary Stream
    In case you missed it, we hosted a special anniversary stream yesterday. We celebrated the past, present en future of Skylords Reborn, with news, card reveals, give-aways and more! 
    Sadly, something went wrong with the playback of yesterdays stream that we are not sure we can fix. Since we recorded it live with the 3 of us, and 2 audio tracks are broken, it does not make much sense for the viewer anymore. We are sorry for those who missed the stream and now can't watch it.

    If we cannot fix the video, we plan to do a retake for youtube, adjusting it to be some kind of looking back at 2021, that people can watch to see everything that has been added to Skylords Reborn since release. 
     
    • Patch Reveal + Toggy Stream
    Our biggest surprise from the Anniversary Stream: our Anniversary Patch releases today!
    See the brand new cards and features in action during a special celebration stream hosted by Toggy tonight!
    There will also be a quiz where you can win the new cards, so be sure to check it out!

    • New Cards
    This patch will release five brand new cards into the game! We are excited that you will finally get your hands on the cards we have been working on for the past months. The following cards will be added to the game:
     
    Coat of Protection
    Coat of Protection is a new incentive to play Pure Frost. This tier 4 spell can be seen as the frost equivalent of Regrowth, helping the faction with some lategame support. Check out the full card-reveal here.

     
    Bandit Minefield
    Bandit Minefield is a new tier 2 Spell for Fire/Shadow that should greatly help the faction in PvP. It is a rare and does not have an affinity. Check out the full card-reveal, including the design process, here.

     
    Banzai Lord
    Banzai Lord is a powerful new tier 4 unit that can be splashed into, requiring only one shadow and one fire orb. He collects the corpses of fallen foes and allies to summon his darling birds. The card appears in two affinities, one with destructive birds, one with healing birds. You can find more information in the Bandit Deep Dive. 

     
    Bandit Sniper
    Bandit Sniper is a new, ranged M counter for the Bandits-faction. It is an uncommon that does not have an affinity. It's ability Focus Shot allows the Bandit Sniper to live up to its name, dealing devastating damage to enemies at long range. 


    Amii Paladin
    The shroud surrounding the Amii-faction is slowly lifted. Amii Paladins is our first look at the Amii-faction, after the never followed on tease from Amii Phantom back in the day. It's special ability ''Reflective Armor'' allows the unit to reflect 100% of incoming damage back into enemies, making them a challenging foe to fight. 
    Amii Paladins has the new Amii Passive Ability "Elusive". Units with Elusive have the duration of the immobilizing effects of Freeze and Paralyze reduced by 10%. This ability will be added to all current and future Amii units. 


    Amii Phantom
    While not a new card, Amii Phantom has received a brand new look! Both her artwork and ingame look have been adjusted to fit with the vision of the Amii-Faction. Elusive has also been added, and we plan to change her voicelines (she currently has those from Nightguard) to complete her makeover. 


    A word on Wasteland Terror
    Some of you might be wondering why Wasteland Terror (previously Wasteland Wing) is not included in this patch, even though he was revealed in an earlier communtiy update. Sadly, we were not able to make the anniversary deadline and could not include him in this patch. Rest assured that he we will be implemented in a future patch, though we are not able to tell when just yet. Until then, may you enjoy the clear blue skies while you still can..
     
    • Voice Actors Update
    Now for some disappointing news. With the help of some talented voice actors, we have created some great voicelines to go along with our new (and some old) cards. Sadly, we ran into technical issues. For some reason, the game keeps crashing inconsistently while playing the new voicelines.  Because this did not happen during our initial testing, we could not pinpoint the issue on time to solve it for this patch. Sadly we have to ship the new cards without their matching voicelines. We are really disappointed about this, and we hope to be able to find the solution soon and patch in the new voicelines in all their glory. For this we would love to get your help. 
    Beside the new cards, we will also be adding voicelines for Dryad, Mountain Rowdy and Amii Phantom in the future. There are also already plans for other cards that are currently without voicelines, like Bandit Lancer or Warlock. 
    We would like to give you a sneak peak of what we have been working on and give you a proper first impression of two new cards.

    We would love to have the help of the community fixing the issues we ran into implementing these voicelines. If you have any understanding of coding and/or sound, please head over here and join us in solving this issue. 


    • Balance Changes
    Alongside new cards and features, we will also release some balance changes this patch. 

    Following the Bandits Deep Dive, there are a couple of changes in this patch, including Amok, Commando's, Windhunter, Sandstorm and Corsair. Further PvE-focussed balance changes will be implemented for Frost, with adjustments to Ice Age, Battleship, Maelstrom, Northern Keep, Retreating Circle and fan-favorite: Juice Tank. 

    There are also some changes to popular cards like Sunderer, Dryad, Master Archers and Stormsinger, in combination with the new cards you can expect a fresh meta for PvP as well.

    • Free PvP Decks Updated
    We expect new cards like Bandit Minefield to shake up the PvP scene and find it important that everyone who wants to play PvP can do so without grinding for cards or upgrades first. We have upgraded our free PvP decks to include the new cards, alongside adjustments to most decks to adapt to the meta changes that have happened since the introduction of the free PvP decks. Please note: to update the decks, we had to reset all the current decks. Sorry about the inconvenience. 
    Here is a quick recap on where you can find the PvP decks: 

    - Select the sword on the top right of the menu to select your 2 free PvP decks.
    - Free PvP decks are fully upgraded decks, that can only be used in PvP. 
    - You can select two new decks every day*, if you want to switch things up.
    - You can freely swap around cards in those decks with cards in your collection to customize the decks to your liking. You can do this by clicking the tab in your inventory on the top left and changing General to Free PvP and vice-versa.
    *We have reduced the timer to change your two Free PvP decks from 7 days to 24 hours.
     
    • Updated PvP Starter Guides
    On top of changes to the standard free PvP decks, RadicalX and Hirooo got together to update their starter guide for PvP. Want to get into PvP but not sure where to start? In this guide you will find everything you need: deck descriptions, tips and tricks for every match-up, an overview of the pro's and con's of your deck and how beginner friendly the deck is to play!
    The guide ended up being longer than your average thesis, but we made sure to provide it with a clear layout so you can easily find your favorite deck and browse through the information you need. 
    You can find the updated starter guide here, and be sure to join the Tutor and Apprentice discord that is specifically designed to help new players get started. Feel free to ask all your questions there. 
     
    • New Fire rPvE Preset
    It is now possible to face the Fire faction in all its blazing glory in rPvE! You can expect a fresh new challenge for rPvE, including new bosses to fight against. While we did a lot of testing, we would love to hear your feedback on the balance of this new enemy.

    • Reforging
    One of our biggest and most requested new features this patch is Reforging. The idea behind this new system is to give players a use for their spare cards without listing them on the Auction House. Players have no use for 40+ copies of the same common, and listing them for 3BFP on the AH has proven to be quite tedious and often unsuccessful. Additionally, the rise of expensive ultra rare cards is becoming a problem. We hope to tackle these issues with this new feature.
    Here is how it works; players can reforge four cards from their collection to create one brand new card, destroying the four cards in the process. The card that is created will depend on different factors such as the rarity and color of the input cards. Players can also increase their odds by selecting cards that have something in common, for example four buildings. Using higher rarity cards will also increase the odds of an ultra rare dropping. Should the odds of reforging into an ultra rare card ever exceed 100%, players will get some spare Forge Shards. These Shards can then be used to get a mini-booster. It is not possible to use or get a promo card when reforging.
     

     
    We expect this feature to have a large impact on the economy as a whole. Being able to exchange rares and cheap ultra rares for the chance of getting one of the more expensive ultra rares should bring their prices down. At the same time, this feature should increase the price of cheap ultra rares, since they are now valuable resources for reforging. While some of you might be worried that destroying four ultra rare cards to create one random one will further decrease the supply; please note that reforging multiple ultra rares is designed to be inefficient, thus discouraging the use of more than one ultra rare at a time, since the odds of getting an ultra rare does not improve over using a combination of rares and ultra rares. After the dust has settled, we expect this will bring a better balance to prices within a rarity. Because of the big shake-up this will have on the economy, we have closed the Auction House between the announcement of this system and the release of it.
     

     
    • Legacy Avatars
    We have added additional features regarding the player avatar you can select. It is now possible to buy the avatar that was previously only selectable with the creation of a new account for 15.000 gold. Additionally, once you have bought one of those avatars, they will be added to your collection, allowing you to swap freely!
    In the future we are also planning to add additional avatars that can be collected through special events or achievements. 


    • Advanced Filtering
    Our developer Kubik has been working on improving the filtering of search results, both for the inventory and the auction house. Some of you showed interest in this progress, so we put together a document explaining how the current filtering works, why it's far from perfect, and how it will be changed. It's a bit more technical than the other documents we have shared with the community so far, but we hope you will enjoy this look behind the scenes!

    • Booster Discounts + Santa 
    As a special treat for our one year anniversary, all boosters in the game will be 100BFP cheaper between 18-12-2021 and 18-01-2022. 
    Additionally, every player will receive the Santa Claus card after playing a game. Happy Holidays Skylords!

    • Team Changes / Open Positions
    It has been a wild ride getting Skylords Reborn to the state it is now. We still have more new cards and exciting game modes in development, but need help getting them to you sooner. If you love the project, please consider helping us out, we would love to have you on our team. 
    Below are three roles highlighted, but you can find more information, desired traits and all our open positions here. If you are unsure if you qualify, please reach out and have a talk! At the same time, we are sad to announce Carofex has left the team as a balance developer. We want to thank him for his contributions and wish him well! 
    Open Position - Map Tester
    As a map tester you get early access to new maps and gamemodes and are responsible to playtest them and provide feedback to the other map developers about possible issues or improvements. This includes check how balanced the map is, how fun it is to play, if there are any exploits, if areas on the map need to be prettified etc. Map developers/designers/artists should be able to rely on you to make sure maps that are released or changed are done so properly.     Open Position - Client Developer
    As a game client developer you are responsible to maintain and develop the game client. This mostly includes add new pre-game features (content outside of matches, so no game mechanics) through .pak files used by the game. You will be responsible to create and design in-game interfaces for new features, add networking support for new features that require it, solve bugs etc. using LUA, XML and little bit of Rust. BattleForge uses LUA and XML in their .pak files which are loaded by the client. Communication with the server happens through a proxy written in Rust. More information.
    Open Position - Game Server Developer
    As a game server developer you are responsible to maintain and develop the game servers. This includes add new features, track and fix bugs, optimize code, roll out new server updates, improve server monitoring etc. The servers are written in C++17, use boost asio for networking, MySQL as database, Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring etc. More information.

    Heya, thanks for another video on that, enjoyed it very much again!

    This time I'm very much closer to Kserke then to Dutchy, for almost every card I can go with Kserskes comments on it. Sometimes I would go one tier higher or lower, but we have seen this is a common thing in all of our tierlists we had, be it on cards or on decks.

    Only things where I disagree on Kserske more then one tier:

    - Plauge is S tier, and this is not much a question of taste, one of the strongest spells in the game
    - same goes for Booster in the buildings
    - Shadow Worm is not thaaat bad, he is no reason to play 4 shadow and that is super sad, but if you want to build around him it works ok-good
    - Unholy Power is a D for me. Clunky to play, runs often out usually quicker as people would guess, only rarely usefull as it stacks with Unholy Hero

    Dear skyfolk,
    since the most recent balance Patch included a reset of all speedrunning leaderboards, we have decided to create a bounty for those, who will be the first ones to reach to top of the rankings again.
    Thus, we will reward every player, who holds a speedrunning record in either campaign PvE on expert difficulty or rPvE difficulty 10, with 2 General Booster per record they have at the end of the month, up to a maximum of 4 boosters per player.
    Since the rankings are still completely empty, everyone has a chance of setting a time on the leaderboards for now!
    So if you are interested, check out the forum post containing the PvE/rPvE rankings to see the rules. If you manage to have a record, your time will also be featured in this post.
    Let's hope for some great runs!

    These are still planned, but they would require a little bit more testing (actually someone please verify if it works for crusade 😛 ) and the focus of the patch was not really to spend too much time on map changes.

    45mins in a map that good players/decks manage in 10-15mins seems like a freaking lot time.
    21mins in a common BG9 that can be done even with pure decks (that are nice but usually not suuper speedy) in 10-13mins is already a lot time for experiments. Else it would be like Coco said, auto wins even if you have just some random cards. And not every card must be viable in every game mode.
    And this mode is still about beating the enemys.
     
    Only in 4p 10s I'm still for 2-5mins more time, as it is hard enough with meta decks on some maps, a few mins more could enable a few other decks what would be nice. But this suggestion was already made.

    Great idea, though a bit sad that time gives this a second component which makes this, even more then other contests, a shoot in the dark.
    But don't get me wrong, the concept remains wonderfull!
    One question, playing a unit/building is an action too, or are spells the only card that count for that?
     
    EDIT: What is btw. about raising wells?

    This patch contains some Quality of Life changes, alongside updates to our free PvP decks. 

    General Changes
    Added a new map script function SetUiVisibility. You can use it to hide the UI by typing SetUiVisibility { InterfaceState = false } and unhide it using SetUiVisibility { InterfaceState = true }. It works analogously to the CTRL + U hotkey. Newly recorded replays will now display a "Desync" warning, if the gameplay differs from what occurred in the actual match. Added a cooldown icon indicator for the wall gate toggle ability. Updated the free PvP decks to match the new meta. An overview of these changes can be found on the Wiki.    General Fixes
    Disabled all UI effects while the forge is paused. This caused bugged out visual effects before. Fixed a game crash when trying to log in with the wrong password or email. UTF-8 compatible Russian community map names are no longer automatically displayed with a an error message in the downloadable community map section. To achieve compatible map names and descriptions in Russian, please edit the description.xml file directly. Added trailing period for generic cooldown error message. Removed trailing period for toggle gate ability. Non-Player Card Entity Changes
      Bandit Master Healer (Introduction) (Card Id: 235)
     Aligned displayed name in non-English descriptions to match the English one.

      NEW: Fire Altar (Collision enabled) (Card/Building Id: 3721)
    Added a new version for the "Fire Altar" quest building for use with the map-editor. This version has collision enabled, meaning it will be able to be attacked by melee units.

    Greetings Skylords!
    This community update is a bit different to what you are used to. We would like to take a bit of time to communicate to you all, the player base, about the state of the project, and give you the opportunity to communicate to us as well. 

     
    • Share your feedback, get two boosters!

    Last month, we released our latest patch: "Force of Nature". We hope you are all enjoying it, and are curious to hear how you feel about Skylords Reborn in general.  
    It has already been a year since our feedback survey, so it is time for some reflection and feedback. What do you like about Skylords Reborn? What could be better? We want to keep improving the game and growing our player base, and your feedback is crucial for us. 
    As a thank you, there will be two boosters for everyone who fills in the survey. Your feedback will be anonymous.
     

    • State of the Project

    We are very proud of everything we have accomplished with Skylords Reborn so far. Not only are fans able to play BattleForge again, but over the last two years we have added many new features and content. However, a lot of effort is required behind the scenes to create these new features.
    Skylords Reborn has a very loyal and consistent player base, but has been struggling to find new players. This also results in less potential contributors, resulting in a few individuals doing a ton of work. There is only so much we can do as volunteers, and at the current rate it is becoming unsustainable to keep the same feature output rate.
     
    Without additional contributors, Skylords Reborn will only get card and balance updates moving forward.
    This means new cards and adjustments on existing cards, but not features like Reforging, improvements to the UI, Happy Hours, etc. While we are currently working on a couple of new and existing cards, to improve the game, we would really like to add new features as well. 
    To give you an idea of what we are currently missing out on, below are some features highlighted that we feel would really improve Skylords Reborn. This is a game with so much potential, and we would love to bring it to you! 
     
    • What could be: potential features for Skylords Reborn

     
    Before we dive into them, please note:
    - The following features are currently not in development, due to a lack of game client developers, game server developers, and fullstack developers.
    - You can directly help create this features by applying for a staff role.
    - You can indirectly help by spreading the word.
    - Images shown are very early mock-ups.
     
    PvE Map Modifiers
    Map modifiers are global effects that can be applied to matches. These can be chosen before the start of a match, and different modifiers can be combined for limitless replayability. Examples of modifiers are: all enemy units regenerate 3% of their health every second, all enemy units move 25% faster, all enemy units spawn a hostile Nether Crawler on death, or cards return less power to the void pool. The more modifiers are active, the higher the reward from the match. The following is a mockup of a UI to choose the modifiers before lobby creation.

     
    New Reward Distribution System
    Do you dislike receiving achievement and quest rewards through the in-game mail? What about your auctions? Isn't it also a bit boring to see your scratch code rewards in a small static window? This feature is a new way to make it more exciting to open rewards. Imagine the following mockup with nice animations and sound effects, showing you what you received and actions to take with the items. The idea would be to move away from the lackluster interface and user experience of the in-game mail.
     

     
    Cosmetics
    Currently, the player can only express themselves through their character avatar. This feature would add numerous cosmetics like character borders, character banners (textured and colored), player titles and more avatars in general. The following image shows a Christmas themed border, and a green character banner. Instead of `Master of the Forge`, the player can also own and change their title and other cosmetics in a cosmetic management screen. We already started on this with the Cosmetics window currently found in-game, although it is currently limited to avatars. The idea is to add more tabs to the right of the Cosmetics page for the different cosmetics. Achievements, events and even leaderboard positions can also reward special cosmetics.
     


     
    Compare Profiles
    Amassing many cards, becoming the richest player, completing all the achievements and collecting all the different cosmetics is rewarding, but showcasing and comparing your accomplishments with others is also part of the fun. With the compare profiles feature, players would be able to manage what they share publicly, and easily compare their profiles with those of other players, either globally or specifically with one player. The following image is a very early concept of a screen to compare achievements with a specific player.


    Map Progression Indicators
    Map progression indicators is a feature for the world map that indicates, through the usage of stars above each campaign map, what difficulties you have completed for each map. This allows you to quickly have a glance of what you have already completed, and what you have not.

     
    New Campaign Maps
    While rPvE is arguably the most played game mode, we know players would really like to continue the story and/or experience new campaign maps. While we already have some of the resources to make this happen, we are lacking in the map department to make the push to get this done in a way that fits the quality you can expect from an official campaign map. Please consider applying as Map Artist, Map Designer or Map Developer. 

     
    New Community Map Experience
    The experience of creating, sharing, finding and managing community maps has always been very cumbersome. Currently, it is a unmanageable list that leaves much to be desired. This feature would completely overhaul how the community maps screen looks like, for both PvP and PvE. More filters, more sorting, public upvoting and private downvoting, highlighting of frequently played maps, deleting maps you have uploaded, viewing when a map was last edited and viewing the minimap of community maps without having to download them are a few features that could be included.
    Another option to improve the accessibility of Community Maps would be adding a second world map, where the best community maps would be found, similar to the campaign maps. 
     

     
    rPvE Deck Builder Mode
    Quite popular in other card games is a mode where you face challenges while your starting deck is slowly expanding by picking a card from a random selection. We think this could be a great new way to play Skylords Reborn, with every run being unique and allowing you to experiment with different cards and combinations. This would require quite a bit of UI work though, which is why this mode has not been developed yet. 


    Seasons
    Seasons are a broad topic that could include many features that reset or adjust based on the start of a new season. Some examples are Seasonal Leaderboards that reset at the end of each season and automatic events that occur throughout the season. But also seasonal objectives and/or objective trees to complete, similar to a battle pass in other games, are topics that have been discussed in the team quite often. We feel seasons would help make the game feel more fresh, and reward players for playing through each season, giving older players a reason to return. 
    Seasons are a broad feature that would probably require other features mentioned above to be included first, like the improved reward system, modifiers on maps to create new challenges, and additional cosmetics to be rewarded.  
     
    As you can see, there is still a lot of potential for Skylords Reborn, and we would love to add them to the game. 
    As mentioned before, these features are currently not in development due to a lack of people to work on them.
     
    • Help us make these features happen
    So get your friends to join, or have them return to check out the new content and achievements, give us suggestions (through the survey) on how to improve the player base, or apply for a staff position yourself. We really can't do this without you! 
     
      
      

    • Team Changes

    Due to personal reasons, Friendly Firefly sadly had to resign from the team. We are grateful for his help with Burning Spears and wish him all the best!
    While not technically a team change, we would also like to take a moment to thank Kapo for his contributions to Skylords Reborn. You might know him from hosting the CCC events, but Kapo has been doing a ton of work for the team behind the scenes as well. From helping out with the recent Force of Nature trailer, to proofreading and providing feedback, we can always count on him. Due to his contributions to Skylords Reborn, we have awarded him with the rare Skylord of Honor title.

    Send in your fastest replay, including the player name, your time and the faction you played

    You can send in your replays until the 19th of June 2022.

    Please note: 
    You are allowed to send in different replays for the different factions, but you can only win prizes for fastest times in one of them.
    Prize pool
    The following prize pool will be adjusted according to the amount of participants.
    The prices are per person and per faction. If you compete with multiple factions, only your highest place will be rewarded:

    The fastest time across all factions will also be rewarded with a Promo Viridya!
    Additionally, there will be a random draw of 10x Viridya, which will be given out to random participants of all factions, as well as 3x Amii Monument, which will be given out to random participants of the Amii faction.
    Special Reward
    If you send in a valid replay you can guess, what faction the highest amount of players participated in.
    Between all the correct guesses, there will be a random draw of two times 50k Gold!
     

    Rules
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    You may only pick one faction per replay. In T1, you can use units and buildings of a pure colour. From T2 onward, you can only play units and buildings of the faction you picked (Bandits, Twilight, Lost Souls, Stonekin, Amii). You are allowed to use all spells. All Lyrish Defenders have to survive. You have to open all gold chests with a T4 XL unit (if you are playing Amii faction, any T2 unit is fine). The entry has to be a victory.     Just wanted to mention single player rPvE 10 is not up to date. Mocaak did beat the record in January 2022 (11:04.0). Replay was also posted on my youtube channel if you look to confirm this (as 1p rPvE ladder isn't fixed yet).

    I know this is an issue of no real importance, but it bothered me right from the start, and it keeps hurting my eyes. In my opinion, there are several reasons to change "The Boot":
    * The winged boot (πτηνοπέδῑλος) are the symbol of Hermes, the Greek Messenger God; and the appropriate use is to signify speed. Accumulating that much XP is a feat of tenacity, not of speed.
    * This symbol is squished into a way too small space, and not good-looking in that spot anyway.
    * There is a clear continuity in the PvE Ranks using crowns in ascending order, represented by colors.
    * The worst of all, "The Boot" switches BACK to gold (rare) color. So, even if you guys decide for legacy reasons to keep the boot, it's still a sin to keep it golden.
     
    My suggestion would be to just add a new Crown Color, maybe a royal red or an epic purple kind. If you want to make the last rank super-duper special with a different symbol, it would be still advisable to get rid of "The Boot" and replace it with something symboling tenacity or experience in general.

    just finished my PHP Replay Parser.
    Should be easy to include in own projects.
    It contains almost anything that can be read out of the replays and some calculated Values (decks, apm, winner, teams, monuments used, cards used, every action done by the players etc. ).

    Might be useful for an own replay archive, automatic reports for tourneys or just to spy out what deck the rpve Player used that was 10x faster than you ).

    For Volin's stream sake:
    S+ Batariel, who would've expected that. There are pretty much two valid reasons to play this deck. 1. motm competition, 2. a daily timer of 35/45mins.
    S-tier contains the top deck options to play when you either want to go fast but not 2fast or you're playing motms and don't have the power for a batarie ldeck because you had to place the shrines (cries in void power).  
    Brannoc mainly reaches the A-tier for being the single best option for several t3 speedrun scenarios. All other decks - besides  and  - reach this tier only due to their splashability with  spells (driveby superiority).
    Decks below that tier do not really require much of an explanation.

    Thanks for pointing out at my stream I feel very honoured!

    Just to mention, I just got a big donation of 380 cards from @THE_BIG_WET to share with newer players (we said we give them out up to Gold 1Star ranks in the first step, preferably to silver and bronze ranks)
