    Name: Element of Surprise
    Tier & Orbs: T3 Colorless
    Type: Building
    Power Cost: 150
Hit points and Size: 2750, Large
    Attack value and Type: -

    Abilities:

    Control the Elements!

Element of Nature - Powers the Crystal with the element of Nature, healing all friendly units within a 'x' radius for 'y' value every 3 seconds, for the next 30 seconds.
Element of Frost - Covers the Crystal in frosty mist, greatly reducing the movement speed of all hostile units caught within a 'x' radius, for the next 15 seconds.
Element of Shadow - Coats the Crystal in dark energy, poisoning all units within a 'x' radius, dealing 'y' damage every second, for the next 20 seconds.
Element of Fire - Engulfs the Crystal in flames, greatly increasing the damage of nearby friendly units for the next 20 seconds.

Master of All: (costs 100 to activate) Pick one of the elements. However, using the Crystal this way quickly depletes it's power; each use reduces it's Hit Points by 1000 that cannot be warded off with the help of another card and it cannot be repaired in any way.

Master of None: (costs 50 to activate) Let the Crystal pick an element for you, at random!

    Explanation: I like RNG.

    Name: Shrink

    Tier & Orbs: T1 Nature

    Type: Spell (utility)

    Power: 60

Spell Effect: Miniature Warfare - Curse target hostile squad or unit within 'x' metres in a way that they go down one unit size for the next 30 seconds.
Target(s) under the effect of Shrink cannot be cursed again.

Explanation: I think a spell like this fits the color perfectly. It's a fun way to engage with units (in both pvp and pve) in a way like never before.
I don't know about the technical difficulties/limitations but it'd be cool to see an L-sized Juggernaut.

Position of "Balance Developer" does not require any technical knowledge, and usually applicants get to try it before their application is being processed.
It just need crazy amount of time per card. And there are 1000s of cards.

I did not ask about position of designer that have more to do with re-balancing the cards. I would say these positions also not require highly technical knowledge (depending on how you categorize math).

Due to lockdowns, crazy amount of time I might have in the future. I might take your advice and give it a go, thanks!

And sorry for overreacting, you are or were in no way aggressive, I just felt like I was being a target for trying to be objective (or, in fact, brutally honest 🤣) about the patch. Whoops!

    Hello Demiron,

First, I'd like to thank you for your feedback on the Reforging issue which I think you have articulated well. As the person principally behind the system's design (with many others also helping) I am very anxious to see how things turn out. We have built-in the ability to apply changes quickly and are closely monitoring card price points to determine if we need to make changes.

Our intended goals with Reforging were many and varied, but much major goal was to stabilize the economy long term. Prior to this, commons were mostly worthless, most uncommons were driving towards 3 bfp, and our major markers for rares had all dropped hundreds of bfp over only a few month period. This was while ultra-rares were on a steady increase as the only source of value left in an economy which was built with no inflation check.

Right now Reforging has been used over 250,000 times, which is unsurprisingly bringing a lot of chaos to the market as many people who have never or very rarely interacted with trading have begun to pour cards into the Auction House. I understand things seem dire now, but I really want to wait a week or two after the initial frenzy dies down and everyone's excess supply is burnt up (and likely also everyone isn't dumping onto the market simultaneously) before making definite judgements. Previously very expensive Ultra-rares are not the only price point we follow but also average prices of all rarities.

It is possible that despite carefully toning the system to be bfp negative that we still missed the mark, and I think initial impressions leads me to think we should have made the gap between uncommon and rare larger. We will be checking the data we have and if that continues to hold we will adjust quickly. Additionally, future updates plan to add minor and major bfp sinks which should help reinflate any prices we deinflated too substantially.

    Thank you for your post.

I don"t want to judge too soon so I guess we"ll have to wait and see how things turn out. I trust the dev team and if they and the data they monitor say it"s a working system then I"ll have no problem with it. So far everything has worked out pretty well, I"d say. Let"s see if it stays that way

There is a difference between settling with a working strategy, or using the strategy that is fun for you. If all the cards you enjoy playing or want to play with are locked behind either a lottery system or an extremely high grind wall, then that will detract from the experience overall for new players. I don't really think we have the luxury of that for the most part either, being a niche game and all.

I"m sure I represent the minority here but I actually like getting new cards the hard way. If everything is within reach from the getgo it doesnt feel rewarding one bit when you get that sexy new Infect or Harvester or whatever. I might be exaggerating or even wrong about everything I"ve said so far though. Guess we"ll have to wait and see how things turn out.

If you think balancing cards is easier solution, why not apply for "[Open] Balance Developer" position, to try out for yourself?

I never said that it's an easy solution. I do think however that it's the better solution, long term.

Besides, why do I feel this hostility towards me? I wasn't vulgar or aggressive, I am merely giving feedback, based on my experience. I appreciated the work, effort and dedication that the team has put in, some of it I like and some of it I don't. I was asked on multiple occasions and multiple social platforms by you, the developers to give my feedback on what would make the game better and here I am, giving my honest opinion.

I am no developer so it's a little bit unfair to ask me to apply for something I know very little about. But you don't need to be a musician to judge a concert or a soccer player to judge a soccer game.

I could go with the crowd and tell you that everything's perfect but that wouldn't be honest or too constructive now, would it?

Welcome back! Glad to hear you are liking most of the changes we made.

As for the things you don't like:

    • Reforge system: as a TCG player, I get where you are coming from. However, we found a lot of new players struggling to get the cards they needed. Because the game has no BFP sink, players who were with us from the beginning and kept playing, got more and more BFP. Which resulted in ultra rare cards raising in price, with no end in sight. In the EA days, this system was kept in check because the rate at which you would get BFP daily was so low, that the only real way to boost up your economy was investing money (or trading smart). While our new system worked really well in the beginning, the paywall if you start playing now is much higher then one year ago. For example, below you can see the price chart for Infect. It started out around 1100 and has steadily risen to 4850.

    image.png

Ultra rare drop rates are already quite low, but in practice it was even lower because bad ultra rares were taking up the drop rates of the ones people actually wanted. This resulted in cards like Infect being extremely expensive, with other ultra rare cards being as low as 40 BFP, sometimes even lower. Reforging hopes to solve this, by boosting up the bad ultra rare cards a bit (like you said, they are now valuable resources) and bringing down the most expensive ones. In practice, this will not result in Forest's Vim being the same price as Infect; use will still be the biggest factor effecting the price. But it should help making the expensive ultra rare cards easier to obtain, and fix the feel bad of unplayable cards. Though please note that our balance team intends to make all cards at least have some niche in the future.

    • No way to trade for gold: this is not an oversight but actually intended, I'm sure one of our designers can go a bit more into detail. We actually got a lot of comments that gold was not valueable enough. The Avatar system is meant as a clear gold sink; peope can now spend gold on something once they have upgraded all the cards. The reason Reforging costs gold is actually partly because of the issue you have with reforging; we want to add this feature to the game, but we don't want everyone to have unlimited access to it. We instead want to encourage people to play the game, not just for their daily BFP, but also beyond it for the gold they need for the other features.

We are glad to see most players seem to like the new features, and rest assured we did not implement them lightly or ''just because''. And while you are completely entitled to your opinion, I hope I was able to give you a little bit of insight on the Why. 🙂 We expect the economy to need a little bit more time to settle into the new system, but will ofcourse keep a close eye on it and adjust accordingly.

Thank you for your thorough answer on this matter.

Some of my questions got answered but I need more clarification.

Since you've brought it up let's stick with your example card, Infect. A highly sought after, ultra rare card that's always been expensive and I guess out of reach for some players, especially newcomers. It definitely shines in the right deck and makes life easier. But is it really a necessity? Not to sound like a broken record but I still believe that no ultra rare card is needed to finish the game (on any difficulty). I view it as some kind of a luxury item. Something to work towards to. High-end ultra rares and especially rares will not fill that role anymore. I understand why you ultimately decided to go with it but I still don't like that you've sacrificed this aspect in return.

I also get that opening bad UR's feel terrible, been there. But cheaper rares and ultra rares could have been made more valuable through balancing and not just by nature, having that UR tag. This way nobody would feel cheated when opening any of these cards but they could still remain expensive, relative to other cards.

But alas, what's done is done and I hope it works out in the end. Keep up the good work lads

So you're saying you liked shamans going for 800+ bfp?

I'm being a little shit for that statement haha, but I just like how this let's people gather more of a collection potentially faster while letting people with much fuller collections have something to do. Also, there are still pretty large gaps between useful cards and not useful card, but I'm sure it can be tweeked a little bit to have rares and mythics still be a bit... rarer? As is, I love the mechanic, plus I love more lottery-esque stuff that really gives me that rush of adrenaline. 😄

There could and should have been limitations to the system. Outside of PVP (the mode that already offers basically all the cards, free of charge), the game can be easily completed with a limited collection. A limited collection means goals (expensive cards) to look forward to. At least to me. The game can be completed without needing any of the ultra rare and most rare cards. I agree that Shaman is a card that is essential in most nature pve setups and as such, should be included in the reforge system. Ultra rare and rare cards, however should remain ultra rare and rare, respectively. And not just in name. As it stands now, nothing is 'ultra rare' or 'rare' anymore.

Why does it nullify the system?

I for one really enjoy the aspect of being able to get rid of all my extra commons laying about catching dust. Idk if you thought you get to CHOOSE what you want, but it's a tiny random lottery that seems very fair so far with my testing.

The system was already generous as far as bfp gain and card acquisition goes (daily quests, achivements), FAR more than the original design, it did not need a new way to crush higher end / rare card prices imo.

Because of how reforging works, card prices are now tied to rarities rather than their usefulness or the value they provide in games. Bad rares and ultra rares will become valuable craft materials, despite how little they offer during actual gameplay, which is not ok with me. There are essentially no bad pack openings anymore as you can just sell 4 bad ones and buy something good off the auction house or if you're the gambler type you'll roll into something good eventually.

I personally like the feeling of my hard work paying off and getting something rare and valuable at the end of my days/weeks/months long grinding session. Unless we're talking about promos, it's not there anymore. Everything's within reach now. Maybe it's just a me problem, but maybe there are others out there, missing this feeling. I'm happy for everyone enjoying the system though and hats off to the very dedicated dev team.

Sweaty? My post provides actual feedback to the game we both love and care for. Your post is just straight out rude and offensive.

  8. As a returning player here's what I think about the latest update:

    What I like:

    - new cards - the art on them, their models and the voice samples I've heard are all very high quality

    - balancing - I went through the patch notes and most of these changes make sense, spot on

    - new rpve faction - I welcome every change as it's my most played mode by a large margin and the tower defense mode is by far the most interesting idea that'll happen eventually I guess

    - avatar system - it's cool that you can collect these avatars under a new tab, again, quality work

    What I don't like:

    - reforge system - I like the collecting aspect in card games, having to either pay, trade or grind my way to a specific card I've wanted for a long time, and while Battleforge is not your classic tcg in that sense, this aspect was completely nullified with this system. It makes me want to play less, not more

    - no way to trade for gold - with this update, gold as a currency is much more valuable than ever before and it seems like an oversight that there is no way to trade for it

Overall, the changes are great as far as gameplay and quality of life improvements go, but I do not like the major overhaul of the economy.

As supplement some example cards which I observed over some time on https://smj.herokuapp.com/card

Overlord, Cultist Master, Ashbone Pyro, Grim Bahir, Forest Eleder, Primeval Watcher,....ect. You can find much more cards with this pricedevelopement (manipulated for the own advantage of some people on the cost of the rest of the bf-society) on smj.

If more and more cards are being pumped up in price then it's more likely to go even or profit with every booster you decide to open. If the prices rise, you don't buy individuals, you open packs.

Since we can't buy anything for actual money this is your only option given that booster prices are fixed. Either this or you wait x days for the prices to normalize again.

That's completely off. I'm german, live in germany and know a lot of people who don't speak english at all. Or any language besides german. To illustrate my point a bit: My employer regularly hires people for junior positions that require some basic english skills, so a very simple test of their english language skills is included in the hiring process. About 50% of the applicants fail miserably. They're not able to translate a small email (5-6 sentences, plain english with only a few technical terms - relevant to their job - thrown in) or write one by themselves. They struggle in a 2-3min verbal conversation in english, being asked basic questions about their CV. Most of them had english lessons at shool for at least 10 years and are twenti-somethings, so their english lessons are still somewhat recent. The human ability to be ignorant is amazing.

It gets worse when these people get older. They don't watch movies in english, don't read english texts, don't play games in english, don't work in jobs that require english (because their english was not good enough to get hired ...) so what little english skills they had withered away. Most jobs don't require english, so they can get away with it. At my current and past employers, mostly medium sized companies in the manufacturing industry, english was not required for about 90% of the jobs. Departments like marketing, export, engineering or it definitely require some english skills, but production, warehouse, cleaners, canteen, internal administration ... ? None of them require any ability to communicate in english and most people working there don't have any. To further illustrate: A software in use by the company got an update, about 2 years ago. The software is localised, almost everyone uses the german version, but due to an oversight the localisation for a little message box, telling the user that an update has been applied in the background and they should save their current work and restart the software, stopped working. I, working in IT, was on tech support duty that morning. I started my shift at 9 and had gotten about a dozen calls from people - who had seen the very same message box in german multiple times without any problems - by 10. They did not understand what was asked of them and how to proceed.

tl;dr, so far: Many people in germany are not able to communicate in / understand english, especially if they don't usually need it for work or personal interests.

But that's on them. They should not expect anyone to accommodate for their screwed up education. That's basic decency: I don't show up in a danish community and expect them to be happy with me talking german - even with many danes being able to communicate in german. That sense of decency is completely missing from the german crowd that's currently joining the community.

Ok, I've gone off-rail. Let's stick to Battleforge, or on a larger scale, to the Internet. Chances are, you are young (before your 40s), you play games, you watch streams and movies, you play with people from other countries. Unless you're really young there is NO WAY in Hell that you don't encounter English on a daily basis. You just decide not to use it because it's more convenient to talk in your native language.

  11. 18 minutes ago, Mighty_Rathalos said:

and how many of the things you listed are required for the evryday life for people who live in Germany, Austria or german part of Switzerland? if your guess was "none of them" then congratulations.

there is no "need" to understand or speak english if you dont live in an english speaking country. none of those things are also required to play the game. Even if the game did not have a german client, understanding descriptions can be done with base knowledge of english, proof for that is a friend of mine who I played alot of games in english who can understand descriptions of attacks but because he never had full clases of english could not have a conversation in english.

so if you really believe the world expects you to speak english you have a very narrow mind. yes it brings alot of advantages with it but is neither required nor expected

I don't know, maybe most people working in catering? Lodging? IT? You can insert almost any profession here and it still will be true. The only narrow minded person here is you, believing we are living in the middle ages where german people only speak german and nothing else. I could pack my stuff, get to Austria tomorrow and I'll be greeted by English speaking personnel in the first, second and third hostel I decide to stay in.

  12. 1 hour ago, Mighty_Rathalos said:

thats exactly the problem I meantion in another topic. aside from contradicting yourself because it would suggest they dont speak german but also in eglish (despite the same being true for english, not everyone speaks it and "couple of words" is not enough to have a discussion of any form) the "solution" of grouping up or whispering just dosnt generally work

    a) whispers work only between two players

    b) often people still write in chat, be it to look for groups or ask/respond to questions while they wait for a map to fill up. you expect me disband my group to have a discussion?

and "spamming" is not the case if there is a discussion happening, otherwise everyone else would be spamming the chat in english.

when it first came up I thought "eh, I dont feel the need for a german chat" but the more I read it forums or ingame I feel the german chat is less needed for everyone else to be "save" from the germans but the germans be "safe" from everyone else.

Anywhere you go in the world the globally accepted language is English aside from a few exceptions. The forum is in English, Discord is in English, the patch notes are in English, official streams are in English. Not German. You MAY have the option to switch to German but it's not always the case. Meanwhile English is default everywhere. So yes, you are expected to be able to talk in English not just by me but the majority of the world.

  13. I just think it's flat out rude spamming the chat in german when you are 100% aware that there are non-german players present. You can expect someone to be able to speak English even if it's just for a couple of words, that's not the case at allwith German. If you want long chats you can always whisper each other or group up.

So that supposed dude who works half a day, needs 8 hours of sleep, needs to eat and spend time with his family so he is propably left with an hour and lets say he spends it whole on Battleforge for a reason, and on top of that requires to stay relevant at the game, he cant reroll a quest he doesnt want? Or dont do them for that day and wait the next to eventually get the ones he can and simply reroll again the yesterdays ones? Thats 2 solutions right there for your man. Come on the working man excuse is old, simply admit you dont like the system yourself and lets end the discussion here. Also, if you think getting 150 bfp after you do the quests doesnt give a sense of accomplishment well no point in me trying to discuss it, waste of breath at this point.

And what does relevant mean in BF? This isnt mmorpg or anything of its sorts, there is no relevant player. You can take your time or you can go fast that is on you, deck 0 can even easily play advanced with other dudes. Only 'relevant' players are the competitive ones and pls dont joke the 'working man' will want to hit those ladderboards. BF doesnt force you to keep up on something it has that uniqueness yet you wanna throw it out the window. Should we also add an extra option for the 12h working man to have every achievement automatically accomplished so he doesnt feel forced to spend time actually playing to achieve them?

You can't reroll your dailies more than once as far as I know. I sure can't.

  16. 3 hours ago, RayG said:

In that case i can only assume that choosing your own quests would each give you lets say 50bfp. Since its basically free bfp cause you gonna pick whatever doesnt make you not go out of your way and you can earn while playing however you like.

Still i am against this, i already stated that game is way too much easy already and doing stuff like this only dumbs it down even more. You can have a "too much player friendly" situation which i feel would only work against the game longtime. Seen it in a few others as well, try to make it easier and easier and easier until you dont even have to try basically and then games population dies out. Same as i did quited and never looked back at them.

Almost 1/3 of the posts i see now in the forum in some form just proves my upper point right. "I dont like this so change it", " This takes 15m and i wanna do it in 5m", "This would make me do something i dont like for 20m and i hate it", "Achievement is too hard for me so remove it". There is real feedback and personal opinions that dont have any actual basis.

And in the end, yes we have that option to have a real community-developer relationship but that doesnt mean that everyone gets to change everything however they see fit for themselves only. Cause the more we focus on that the less time they get to develop new stuff. And i dont think anyone would prefer to sit and rework the quests for example cause you cant afford 15m to do something you might not like or reroll (but no those 5 bfp loss will bring the apocalypse) instead of working on the so much anticipated new cards, like the shadow/nature deck that we never saw in the old BF.

You've set some kind of parallel in your mind that anything too easy or not annoying enough means the game's eventual death. That one should feel some kind of accomplishment when doing these quests. You're wrong. It's the unnecessary, time-consuming things that make everything worse, there's absolutely no logical explanation as to why I shouldn't earn the same bfp in the map or mode of my choice instead of doing pretentious things like wasting my time with chores. You know, so I wouldn't have to go through 30 minutes of doing things I don't like to get to the actual fun part. And let's skip the 'it's all optional part', we all know it's not true at this point, if you want to stay even slighty relevant in this game you will have to do all your dailies.

And yes, for those who work 12 hours a day, have children or any other obligation even a 10 minute difference counts.
