  5. Greetings Skylords! It's been three weeks since our last community update so it's time to bring you up to speed with everything going on in Skylords Reborn! There are a lot of exciting things to talk about, so lets get started! As we mentioned in an earlier community update, new cards are in development. We are very excited to show you the first one today! Please note: We are still testing the card. While we are generally happy about it and feel comfortable revealing it, numbers and effects might still change. We hope to release this card before the end of the year and will share more information at a later date. New Card Reveal: "Coat of Protection" Coat of Protection will be a pure-frost tier 4 arcane spell. Upgrading the card reduces its cooldown (-10 sec), increases the number of targets (+2) and reduces powercost (-15). It will be uncommon and come in two affinities, each having a different effect. Frost affinity: Blessed Shielding Activate to wrap up to 6/6/8/8 friendly units in a 25m radius in an Ice Shield. Each Ice Shield absorbs up to 1800 damage for 30 seconds and can be strengthened to absorb up to 2500 damage. Reusable every 30/20/20/20 seconds. Shadow affinity: Tainted Shielding Activate to wrap up to 6/6/8/8 friendly units in a 25m radius in an Ice Shield that initially absorbs up to 2500 damage, but slowly decays by 100 strength every second. Lasts until Ice Shield is depleted. Reusable every 30/20/20/20 seconds. Coat of Protection, alongside changes coming to the card Ice Age, will continue our pure frost rework and allow for further sustainability and shield play styles in PvE. We are excited to bring brand new cards into the game and would love to hear your thoughts! Artwork The artwork has been designed by our talented artist Tweeto. Even though it looks great on the card, it does not do justice to the full piece. Can you spot all the cool little details? A lot of time and changes went into the artwork, which can be seen in the time-lapse bellow. A big thanks to Tweeto for constantly accepting feedback and improving the artwork. We are really happy with the final result, and hope you are too! Vote for cardnames During testing we came up with the cardname ''Coat of Protection'', and abilities named ''Blessed Shielding'' and ''Tainted Shielding''. However, part of our promise to our patreons is to let them help with naming new cards based on suggestions from the community. For this, we will need your help! Please reply in the comments below what you feel is the perfect cardname for this card, and how you would name the ability. Please note that Blessed and Tainted are part of the affinity name, and will not be changed. Example: Name: Coat of Protection Ability: Tainted/Blessed Shielding Please only suggest one name. We will collect all the suggestions and let our Avatar-of-Frost-tier (and higher) patreons vote for the final name. New Promo Speaking of patreon, we have reached out to our Juggernaut-tier patreon for a vote for the next promo card to make it into the game! We offered 5 options (restricted by fitting artwork we have available) and asked them to vote for their favorite. The options are: - Promo Sunderer - Promo Manawing - Promo Moloch* - Promo Deathray - Promo Skyelf Commander* The images below are mock-ups and might receive changes to fit with the new promo-look. Cards with a * will receive buffs in the future. We will share the results and how you will be able to collect the new promo in a later update. Voice-actor positions are now open As mentioned in the last community update, we are planning to add new (English) voice-lines into the game, and for that we need voice-actors! We will need both male and female voices. To apply, follow the instructions below and send in your recording per e-mail as a single MP3 file per role you apply for, keeping a pause between the lines. To get a feel for your sound, we included only a couple of different lines for you to record. If we feel you are a match, we will get in contact with you for the full script. How to apply Available voice-line roles Brannoc, Rogan, Moon, Viridya If you sound exactly like Brannoc, Rogan, Moon or Viridya, we would definitly be interested in working together! For your application, please reference a few lines from them that are currently in the game (attached below) and try to sound as close as possible in your recording. Female: Moon Female: Viridya Male: Brannoc Male: Rogan For our new cards, we also will be in need of new voice-lines. For each line we have included a preferred mood/tone-of-voice. Read the background info and try to make the character come to life. Male: A - Voiceline Bandit Male: B - Voiceline Bandit Male: C - Voiceline Amii Female: D - Voiceline Amii We expect to need a few weeks to collect and review all the voicelines. We hope you consider applying! Tournaments & Events NEW: Official 4p rPvE Contest#1 The Bandit Hunt Last week our official rPvE contest started, which will run until 25-10-2021. Create a team of four players, each playing a different color, and compete in the rPvE map of the month on difficulty 9 for the fastest time. All the rules can be found here. Due to the high amount of players already joining, we have even increased the prize support already. A big thanks to Volin for helping us with this event! The winners will be revealed on a live stream on our official Twitch channel on November 7th. FINISHED: Official PvP Rookie Tournament#1: Clashes of Swords Our first official Rookie tournament was a great success! 50 players entered the ring, with many new players for their first PvP-experience. The tournament was streamed live and you can rewatch it on our official Twitch channel. We will definitely host more rookie tournaments, so look forward to those! • Host your own event / tournament Want to host a tournament or event? New Team Members / Open Positions As you can see, we are actively developing exciting new cards and game modes, but we would love to speed up the progress. If you want to help, we would love to have you on our team. Below are three roles highlighted, but you can find more information, desired traits and all our open positions here. If you are unsure if you qualify, please reach out and have a talk! We are in dire need of Balance developers! Open Position - Balance Developer As a balance developer you are responsible to implement design changes to in-game cards using our internal balancing tool. In other words, you are responsible to implement new cards and changes to existing cards. These implementation requests can come from balance updates and content patches from our Faction Designers but also from the official Skylords Reborn map making team (for example, new bosses for a new map). An integral part of this role is learning our internal balancing tool, as that is the tool that allows us to perform all these changes. You are by no means required to have any programming experience. More information. Open Position - Client Developer As a game client developer you are responsible to maintain and develop the game client. This mostly includes add new pre-game features (content outside of matches, so no game mechanics) through .pak files used by the game. You will be responsible to create and design in-game interfaces for new features, add networking support for new features that require it, solve bugs etc. using LUA, XML and little bit of Rust. BattleForge uses LUA and XML in their .pak files which are loaded by the client. Communication with the server happens through a proxy written in Rust. More information.   10. Yea exactly 🙂 I actually really like the frost music as well, but I dislike the faction in general. I think I heard most of the soundtrack after the game closed down. Everytime I try to play some Frost, I get bored quickly. I also really disliked Frost Mage (she has annoying voice lines). I might give it another shot now that they received some well deserved QoL and buffs though.
  11. I want to add that my second favourite card is actually Swiftclaw. I really like the looks of it, and it oozes nostalgia for me.
  12. Id have to say shadowmage. While it's obviously a strong card, and sometimes you can just spam them and call it a day, i really like the whole flavor of it. It oozes shadow. It has life loss, interesting abilities, looks cool, nice voice lines and I'm a fan of mono colored cards. You also have to keep an eye on them and can't just attack move to the other side of the map and do something else in the meantime. Sacrifice pairs well with unholy army, and Im still trying to make more use of the foul play ability, even after months of playing. To me, it's just a very fun card with a high ceiling of possibilities.

  15. As mentioned above, nature is the color that tends to have the most expensive units. Its also the color of control. Breeding grounds does not feel out of place for this faction. But in general: most of the balance should not be looked at in a vacuum, but for the faction in a whole. In some areas, we agree that some color combinations need certain tools to compete with the other colors, but this does not mean that each faction should get its own variant of breeding ground. Just as we are not planning to give each color its own Eruption-variant or crowd-control spell to match the other colors. The fact that some colors are better at a certain playstyle and have unique tools is part of the charm of Skylords Reborn.

  18. Since we have players from all over the world, timing can sometimes be tricky. Normally we run our tournaments on Saturday or Sunday at 15:00, so be sure to check those out if you are interested 🙂

    shadow mage

    This change was the result of much testing and shadow constantly reaching the top in tournaments. It was not a random change, and the unit (and faction!) are still top tier. What makes you feel its not balanced? On a personal note, I'm a shadow player myself, and the unit is still fine and a core card for the deck. It sucks to have a unit you love nerfed (and shadow mage is actually my favourite unit!) but it was not a nerf implemented lightly.
  20. Regarding the free PvP decks: Every week you can select up to two decks that are fully upgraded and can compete in the PvP meta. For our new players, here is a quick recap: - Select the sword on the top right of the menu to select your 2 free PvP decks. - Free PvP decks are fully upgraded decks, that can only be used in PvP. - You can select two new decks every week, if you want to switch things up. - You can freely swap around cards in those decks with cards in your collection to customize the decks to your liking. You can do this by clicking the tab in your inventory on the top left (see the image). If you are a new player and have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. This tournament is for you, and we would gladly help you get started in PvP!

We are looking into ways to reward players for doing those kind of things, but we are currently not planning to distribute promo's in this way, since part of the appeal is the fact that they are hard to come by. Its a tricky subject though, the latest survey showed very mixed feelings regarding promo's and their prices.

  24. Greetings Skylords! It's been three weeks since our last community update so it's time to bring you up to speed with everything going on in Skylords Reborn! Adding new voice-lines into the game In our last Community Update we made our new Sounds Converter open source in the hopes of improving the sound quality for adding new voice-lines and sounds into the game. We are happy to tell you we discovered a different, albeit non-optimal, conversion method. Using this new method, we are able to convert certain files in the mp3 format into the snr format required by the game. This allows us to improve the sound quality to a state where we start to feel confident in adding new voice-lines into the game, especially for our upcoming new cards. There are still a few things to figure out, for example the fact that some sounds are hardcoded into unit models, or how some special voice-lines are triggered. For the former, we are still in need for volunteers for the "3D Tool Developer" role. However, in the following weeks you can expect a post asking for volunteer voice actors. If you want to make your mark on the Skylords Reborn legacy, this is definitely one way to do so! We will be in need of both male and female voice actors, and will share more info on how to apply soon. Open Sourcing effect editor After our success with open sourcing the Sound Converter, we will now also be open sourcing the Special Effect Editor. As mentioned in a previous Community Update, with this tool we are able to edit the special effects of BattleForge and create new ones from scratch. This is particularly useful for spells, since they are for the majority special effects. Many units also have special effects on their models though, like the flames of Batariel or the frosty cold effect emitted from Frost Mage. If you want to give it a try or contribute, you can find detailed instructions how you can get started here. You can compile the tool yourself, or just download it here. If you feel like you got some cool results, please reach out to us. We are looking for some volenteers to help us out with the effects for new cards. An update on Defence RPvE As we mentioned in a previous Community Update, multiple game modes are currently in development. One of them is Defence RPvE. Instead of the normal RPvE where you attack to clear the map of enemies within the time limit, here you have to defend waves of enemies. We are not ready to release this game mode, since there is still a lot of work to be done. However, since a lot of people are curious about how it will work, we figured to give you a glimpse of what the mode will look like. Keep in mind these features and mechanics might still change in the future. DRPvE will be playable by 1 to 4 players. It's a co-op scenario where you will all work towards the same goal. If you play alone or with 2 players, the other spots will not get enemy waves. You play against one of the 8 enemy factions, randomly chosen. Each of those factions has one custom final boss. For each phase, 3 out of 5 units are randomly chosen from the available options for that faction. This means that even if you play against the same faction twice, you might have a different experience on both runs. There are 4 phases of enemy attackers, with each phase being concluded by a mini-boss. At this point the current wall will be destroyed and you will unlock the next tech-tier. During the small break you can advance to the next wall and build up new defences. Each player will also have a switch that can be activated as soon as the mini-boss of the current phase has been spawned. If all players press it, the new phase starts immediately, allowing different timings of RPvE runs. Each position/lane (see the picture) gets a free unit or units at phase 2. Optional objectives - There are 2 guarded shrines that cast spells to defend themselves. Destroying those will reward you with global buffs and energy. - There are 4 bases, one for each of the dual color factions. Defeating those will reward you a free unit of the corresponding faction. Below you can see the map. You spawn at the bottom, and slowly make your way to higher placed defence positions. As mentioned before, we are still hard at work on this game mode. We are currently working on the bosses for this mode and are in need of a Map Artist to work on the look and feel of the map. If you want to help, please reach out to us! Tournaments & Events • FINISHED: Skylords Open #11 Last week marked the return of the Skylords Open, with its 11th edition. This was the first 1vs1 tournament since the big balance patch, so if you are interested in PvP (or want to see tier 4 in a pvp tournament!) be sure to rewatch the stream. • NEW: Upcoming tournament Our event manager is currently planning the next tournament but details were not finished in time for this community update. Open Position - Global Moderator As a Global Moderator, you are at the highest level of moderation and responsible to moderate and help players on multiple platforms. In this position you are expected to have a good grasp of how moderation works and how to handle sensitive data that you will receive access to in order to perform required moderation tasks. You will be responsible to moderate the forums, process Discord tickets from our Discord bot, answer moderation questions that come to us via e-mail and handle in-game reports. To support you with this, you will work closely with several of our internal moderation tools. Next to this, you will have the chance to shape our moderation tool that is being developed by our web developers by discussing workflow and feature improvements with them. Open Position - Map Developer As a map developer you are responsible to script new official maps or alter scripts of existing maps as a cause of map balance updates. BattleForge maps are created using the BattleForge map editor and the scripts are written in LUA. Open Position - Map Designer As a map designer you are responsible to design the gameplay experience of a map from start to finish. This includes make a rough proposal for the layout and feeling of a map, design the story and goals of the map etc. In Conclusion We hope you liked this Community Update, thanks for reading!
