Clearly someone who had played Civ III would never talk about any of the successors

  2. This is the compiled list of all game suggestions listed by order of appearance in the thread (in their subcategory). If you find a game that is in the wrong category please excuse the mistake and write me so I can change it. All info on games I haven't played is from Co-Optimus and might lead me to false conclusions.

"True" coop games are ones designed for multiple people to beat the game together as a group (e.g. Battleforge). They offer either a coop campaign or something similar in magnitude.
"Partial" coop games are those that do offer major coop-gamemodes but consist mostly of non-coop gameplay. Usually they lack a coop campaign or quests but might offer other features in abundance.
"Coop-enabled" are games that offer the possibility to play with a group but are foremost single- or multiplayer games with few or short coop features. These games might not offer PvE.

    1st post

My best friend and I are always on the lookout for good coop games. Mainly because we have already played through the best of them more than enough times.
And now we are at this point again where everything we look at either looks bad or has been played already. So here you come into the equation. Post your best suggestions.
I'll try to update the list of the whole thread in the first post every once in a while.

I will begin with a couple of games for you all but I won't name every single one I've played now as I'm simply too lazy (and forgetful) for that.

    My personal top 7

    • Portal 1 & 2
      • Shining example of what coop is supposed to feel like. Puzzle game for 1-2 players
    • Orcs Must Die 1 & 2
      • Plaster the walls of a map with as many traps as you can fit and inbetween you beat up hordes of monsters. Yes, it's as much fun as it sounds like. Strategy & Fighting game mix for 1-2 players.
    • Broforce
      • My personal indie game of the year of all times. With an incredibly sarcastic and cynical sense of humor it presents a Metal Slug inspired jump-and-run with more variation and way more explosions. 1-4 players
    • Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
      • It doesn't matter if you play YOLO Gandalf or machine gun bow Legolas. Just choose one of the many heroes and level them up. The amount of orcs slain in this game is enough to build a 1:1 replica of the Two Towers with the corpses. RPG-style combat game without the RP part for 1-2 players
    • Star Wars: Battlefront 1 & 2
      • Ignore EA's latest venture and go back to the classics. Old-fashioned couch coop in split-screen mode in an amazing FPS that combines fast-paced gameplay with a bit of strategy and a hero system just to make yourself feel good. 1-2 players
    • LEGO Star Wars 1 & 2
      • Surprisingly good coop games mixing up 3D platforming with simple combat action and decently funny cutscenes. 1-2 players
    • Company of Heroes 1
      • This isn't really traditional coop as there is no coop campaign or the like. The multiplayer allows to play vs as many CPU players as one wants though which get quite challenging on expert difficulty. This is a true RTS game requiring one to dive a bit into the game mechanics to enjoy it to the fullest. To anyone who enjoyed BattleForge though this should be a welcome addition to your library. Note that it is only available for Steam anymore. Old CD-Keys need to be registered there. 1-4 players in coop or 2-8 players as multiplayer

    Additional personal recommendations

    • Borderlands 1, 2, The Pre-Sequel
      • A really nice true coop FPS with RPG elements and a great (morbid) sense of humour. The only reason this didn't make my best-of list is that it really feels repetitive after a while with the level or weapons grinding. Other games on the lists aren't less repetitive they just don't feel like it. 1-4 players
    • Saint's Row 2, 3, 4
      • Anyone who liked cheating in GTA: San Andreas and wreaking havoc everywhere will like these games. And here you don't even need to cheat to get to the good stuff. The fourth installment isn't quite as good as the second and third one though due to power creep. 1-2 players
    • Helldivers
      • Part of an interstellar military unit that kills anything that's able to fight back you need to cleanse planets from alien, robots, etc. This top-down shooter requires a fair amount of teamwork in order to finish higher difficulties. Thankfully it allows coop groups of 1-4 players
    • Risk of Rain
      • Jump-and-run shooter. Just take a look at a 10 second video of the game and you got everything you need to know. Fun with friends. Less so alone. 1-4 players
    • Tom Clancy's HAWX
      • A dogfighting game for a change. Decently enjoyable. 1-4 players
    • Trackmania Stadium², Sunrise Xtreme
      • A precise racing game enabling you to drive and build incredible tracks. The tracks can be divided quite clearly into the category where you need to shave off another tenth of a second to get the gold medal and tracks that you just desperately try to even finish. Given that you even know where the finish line is located. It's more multiplayer than coop though. 1-16 players (or something like that)
    • Magicka
      • Really fun to find out all the different ways you can kill your teammates and then proceed to die vs the incoming wave only to start all over again. Becomes more boring after you found every single way though. 1-4 players
    • Shoot Many Robots
      • Underrated sidescrolling shooter. Real fun with friends, especially if you like defending against waves of creeps. Would be even greater if it was made for more than 1-2 players
    • Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod
      • Another game that's just about wreaking havoc like in GTA:SA. The multiplayer mod adds a lot of silly features to the Just Cause world that are only possible with 2 players and accordingly 2 grappling hooks. Just don't expect any coop-specific gameplay like a campaign or even a single mission. Just a lot of sandbox fun. 1-64 players (don't quote me on that)

Now seems like post-game stuff (wins, losses and rewards assignments, etc.) is causing the crash, doesnt have anything to do with actual games or maps

That does seem very likely but also I did have disconnects while playing. They did only happen when disconnecting after finishing a game first though and are less common than after a game.

  4. BTT. I played the map quite a bit these last 2 days (like 7 times by now?) and found something new.

After having a disconnect for the first time after finishing the map I noticed that apparently I received the gold for the map but neither upgrades nor the progression on the world map after winning. Wasn't quick enough to make a screenshot though thus I don't know if the gold actually got transferred or if it was only the red notification text in chat.

So I wanted to play the map again but decided to create a new deck to alleviate the impeding boredom of another run. While still creating the deck the cardpool got a bit buggy. For a while it showed shadow T1-3, then frost T1-3, followed by shadow T4 and finally frost T4. Roughly a minute later I got another disconnect without playing any map at all. I then proceeded to log in again, create the deck anew and play the map. While playing I got a third disconnect after 5-10min. Note that I didn't exit the game completely in between disconnects.

Another thing that happened was that the data sent and received by the game completely stopped from time to time while playing, making me unable to play for a few seconds before a data spike was received again and the game continued. Those interruptions became increasingly frequent along with the disconnects.

I keep my theory that the server might handle the map badly (as inconclusive as that is) but it might also be possible that the amount of units or combat has anything to do with it as every disconnect I had was while fighting with a mid- to large-scale amount of units (except for the one in the forge).

Edit: Just now I had another disconnect after a 1P rPvE map. Screenshot is from then. This time I couldn't log in right after as "Account is in use". Don't know if this has anything to do with it but it might be an explanation why only a few people experience it and not everyone.

Lol what?? Haven't you been following the DevPlatform for like past month? You'd see that rewrite and stuff is mentioned in every recent post there.

ETA will be available soon, stay tuned for tomorrow's dev post.

Plus, the server should've been restarted with the code that unlocks all maps.

I read about the rewrite but didn't know it was connected with moving to a new server. Maybe I overread that. Thx for the info

This is probably the case. We'll see on new server if this will still happen, but the network backend and language switch could possible fix some of the bugs that are still present.

Didn't know you were moving to a new server. Any time estimate on that?
If not, then when is the next server restart? I really want to test this out a bit more (and progress the main quest line finally :'()

  7. @MephistoRoss@fiki574

It happened to me today. Funny thing is that this is the first time playing since all accounts got wiped for closed beta (not open beta). So it shouldn't have anything to do with my account as in this instance my account has only played 2-3 rPvE maps before this one. See the thread I accidentally made for a full description.

EDIT: Just went for a 3rd run with resource manager in the background. TCP connections are usually stable but made a jump up both when I finished the map and then another jump when I finished loading into the forge. Hope that helps. Also i included a pic of the DC notice.

Personally I think it doesn't have anything to do with how many times people play a specific map in a row individually. Could be the server that handles the map badly after it has been played a number of times.
Maybe it's worth considering what @John experienced on Nightmare Shard could be a different bug.

  8. Just saw Geradon's thread as I searched for the map name instead of the bug type in the forums. This can be closed or moved to his thread.

NAME: Disconnect after finishing Encounters With Twilight (Standard)
    SEVERITY: 2
    LOCATION: Encounters With Twilight, Standard
    REPRODUCIBILITY: 2/2
DESCRIPTION: To my dismay after just finishing Encounters With Twilight the loading screen froze weirdly. Only very small pieces of the background image were visible and the loading bar didn't move. After half a minute I went into task manager but upon minimizing to desktop I heard the reward *ding* sound when you receive upgrades. When I maximized the game window again i was greeted by the upgrade window ingame but without any upgrades. Instead there was another window in front that said "Connection to server was lost". I did not receive upgrades and the map wasn't marked as completed making me unable to finish the 1P-Quests along that line.
    SCREENSHOT: -
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
I haven't been online since around the time when you wanted to start close beta. Now I got into the game again and played some PvE.
Now I thought maybe it had something to do with the freeze and me minimizing the game. But after restarting BF and another playthrough I received the same disconnect without any loading screen issues at all. Apparently I am the only one having this issue so it might have something to do with my account that was just gathering dust after being reset for close beta. Or maybe it's a general bug that got into the game in close beta and went unnoticed because quite honestly nobody wants to play Encounters With Twilight, especially on standard.

  9. Just before the stream I installed the alpha client again which worked just fine. Now I deleted it and installed the beta client. The problem is that executing the exe doesn't do anything.
I don't get an assertion failed error and it does not create the folder containing the config file in >documents.
Because of that I can't start the launcher successfully. I added a picture.

When I opened the exe for the first time both avast and Windows Defender tried to block it. This resulted in Windows Defender shutting down (for some unknown reason) and avast successfully blocking it. I added the whole BFR path to exceptions in avast and tried again without success. Only improvement was that avast didn't block anything anymore.

Probably I can get a workaround by manually inserting a folder with a working config file from someone else. This doesn't solve the problem though.

  10. I'm not on for a few days, wake up today with a slight hangover and am soooo surprised that there is a stream.

Great to see. Sadly I haven't finished my score in time for the contest but as I would have taken part as a non-competitor I'll just show it to you guys at a later time when it's polished. ;)

We'll allow cracked version from today at 9 PM CEST ! :) We'll need to restart the server, and after that, you'll be able to login with a cracked version.
We are not going to activate for now PVP in the survival world, we need to think about that a bit and consequences before doing anything.

    Thank you ! :)

Great to hear about the cracked clients.

But I honestly wouldn't want to play when PvP is enabled (already voted). IMO forcing people to accept PvP is just way worse than forcing people to not PvP.
Is it possible to do a big non-PvP zone around the spawn if PvP gets enabled? That way one is at least able to relax while being in town.

  12. @Eirias True. In school I didn't even really care what the things were used for or why they were necessary. Only at uni did I really learn the logical foundation of the things. I think we had 2-4 weeks to do everything from high school again before we went on to the more advanced stuff in my first semester.

  13. @Eirias Yeah. I wanted to do a general scenario not an explicit one.

Sure you can do what you said. But if you only give examples then the general meaning of an integral is lost don't you think? I'd use examples to explain what an integral is generally used for.

For example there is a function f(x,t) that describes the brightness at any place in a village at any time of day. The mayor wants to build a few solar panels and looks for the best place for them.
The best place would be where the sun shines the most intense over a day. By integrating the function over time we get a new function F(x,t) that shows the amount of light that has been accumulated at any place in the village for a time t. We could look to find a maximum here.
If the mayor wanted to build solar panels everywhere then we could integrate F(x,t) over the way to see how much light is accumulated in the whole village for a time t.
If we had started by integrating f(x,t) over the way we would have gotten a function describing how fast light is being accumulated in the whole village.

I think the easiest thing to logically connect integrations with their original functions is by knowing that a derivative of a function describes the gradient of the function. So a normal function describes the gradient of the integral of the function. Hope it was easy to understand.

since idk what it is either, guess you better make it pretty basic XD

The goal of an integral is to provide you the area enclosed by a function. y(x) for example.

You can approximate that area by adding the values of y(x) for x=m,m+1,...,n-1,n with the integral starting at x=1 and ending at x=n. In mathematical terms that means you draw rectangles with the width 1 and the height y(x) for every x. By adding them together you get the approximate area beneath the function y(x).

To get the exact area we need the steps on the x-axis to be way smaller. Infinitesimal small to be exact. By using infinitesimal small steps it is possible to get exact formulas to calculate the area beneath our function y(x). I'll spare you the formula as you can find it via google in a matter of seconds.
I could dive way further into the topic but I doubt anybody is interested in that. Whoever wants to study something that needs maths will encounter this sooner or later anyways.

NNNNNNNOOOOOO I HAVE A WEDING TO GO TO AND IM GOING TO MISS IT (and it is like 1am when it is on for me but still) NNNNNNNNOOOOOOO :(

So sorry that you have to miss the wedding to watch the stream :kappa:

But srsly you don't need to be disappointed. Just watch the stream a few hours later. The devs wouldn't give any advantage to people who are watching the stream first.

  16. @Ilsyde I know it was possible to run BF at resolutions that weren't supported by meddling with some files (.ini maybe). But I'm by far no expert and didn't have the need for it so I can't help myself.
Unfortunately the threads are gone along with the old forum. Maybe someone who is more experienced with the topic can help or make a suggestion.
It should work for 16:10 I guess as there aren't that many configurations.

so much text, i will just add my suggestions real quick:

    - dont allow us to reset

    - allow us to have ~4 elo wells:

we can select into which well our wins will count. this will allow us to have an elo for different decks, and allow us to quickly change between them. it will also prevent reseting for easy wins.

I don't think that will solve the problem. It's basically like a fixed amount of resets (3) with the additional advantage of being able to switch between them. But once someone isn't satisfied with the elo's he got he will create another account again. It just takes more time until he does.
