Card-Specific Lore

Greetings everyone!

I've been thinking about joining the dev team for quite some time now, but since I do not use any social media I never really bothered to reach out since I'd need to use Discord. So, I finally figured I'll just drop my ideas here on the forums - starting with card-specific lore:

Frost

Spoiler

[Frost Mage] The Birth of the Frost Mages

Spoiler

The Birth of Frost's Fury

When the howling winds and swirling mists gave birth to the frost element to halt the Ancients' invasion, its sheer power sent icy shockwaves rippling across the realm. Pockets of intense cold formed spontaneously, freezing all in their frozen path.

The Frozen Village

In one such area, a small village found itself entombed in ice from the uncontrolled frost forces. Yet, a few villagers possessed a latent affinity for the cold - their blood ran thick with the chill of winter's embrace. As the frost slowly crept over their homes, instead of freezing, these rare individuals were embraced by the ice, infusing them with its primordial, frosty energies.

Mastering the Frozen Fury

These first Frost Mages learned to wield the very magic that once threatened to encase them in eternal ice. Through unwavering focus and relentless study, they mastered shaping the frost into deadly frozen shards, biting glacial gusts, and impenetrable frozen shields. Their command over ice and snow grew exponentially, as unyielding as the bitter northern winds.

Guardians of the Frozen Realm

As the frost's threat was tamed, the Frost Mages became invaluable guardians against the Ancients and any who dared unleash similar devastation upon the realm. They formed an order committed to harnessing the frost's might for protection rather than destruction, their icy powers a bulwark against those who would upset the balance.

The Eternal Vigil

Though few in number, the Frost Mages' command over the cold is unmatched in the Frozen Village. They stand eternal vigil, ready to summon blizzards and freeze any who threaten the balance - a chilling reminder that the fury of frost still watches, its icy tendrils waiting to be unleashed once more upon those foolish enough to rouse its wrath.

The basic idea behind this type of lore is to create custom maps to tell the origin story of each card.

Please, let me know what you think about this first tiny bit. I'd like to wait for some reactions before writing more.

Interesting idea, overall good text.

Can't help but compare with the existing lore:

What about create lore for cards that aren't on the storybook, following this style? I see that as more realistic.

Something that caught my attention is:

Frost Mages' command over the cold is unmatched

What about other frost entities that literally freezes, like Timeless One or Winter Witch? You could say their command over the cold is even better than Frost Mage.

Good custom maps take a looong time to make, so probably won't be about a single card, but a faction or bigger things.

To be honest: I completly forgot about the story book and couldn't find enough information on the web. So I created my own version with the sparse info I found online.

I wrote it from the perspective of the story where the frost element is still new and mostly unknown to the world. I'll revise the text accordingly to make that clear.
Think of a map where this gets told. That's also the reason I split up the text into very small bits.

I haven't really touched the editor yet, but these many extra o's seem absurd to me. Is the editor really that bad?
I'll report back after I've had a closer look into the editor, but this could take a while.
Also, there are plans for elemental masteries/achievements. The idea of this could be implemented through custom maps instead of achievements. This could potentially save some resources as well.

Edit: Some cards can be easily grouped into a single story. Would you prefer me following that path instead? I mean, I wanted to design an open system where everyone can pick up his favorite card's lore and create a map for it. This would be lost then.

Edit2: Thank you for taking the time to review this!

Edit3: I've extracted the texts from the game and had a closer look at them. You might wanna read about my findings here:

It mostly depends on what standards you apply.

If you just want to make a small side project and use the automated map-decorator for textures/small deco objects and not use too many map scipts, its fine.
But if you want to introduce custom mechanics via scripts, make all the map art yourself and really polish even the finest details and make sure the difficulty is balanced well in all difficulty settings, it really does take a long time.

Good thing there is no need for that. This is about lore/story. I also outlined what I think the next steps in this direction should be:

Why all difficulty settings? As far as I know there is no need to implement all difficulty levels.

I highly advise you to ask questions instead of making assumptions or dancing around them.

Edit: My point is the following: I've put quite some effort into several posts here on the forum. And I specifically asked for feedback on the content. And you point out things that aren't even important and respond to a rethorical question. There were so many better things to choose from. I mean, isn't it obvious that you have more tasks to do if you choose to have more tasks? Like custom scripts, for example.
I completly miss your point of writing. This topic is about lore.
