  1. I laughed at the wooden server saying, good stuff! :)

I think it could be on your end, something to do with network or AV settings or bad connection. Try redownloading and reupdating the game, reseting your router here and there.

It would also be good if you attached logs after the disconnect happens.

Reverse Engineering, going through already setup code, and trying to figure out what each portion of code applies to what, or how it's supposed to be applied, I imagine is much more difficult than just starting from scratch.

I stopped reading there since you don't seem to understand the basis and actual point of the reverse engineering - there is no access to any source code whatosever. There was no pre-setup, readable, compileable code given to us at any point that we could "just inspect and change". We had to reverse the software behavior from already existing binaries, executables, DLLs, PAKs. That's the exact opposite of software engineering, and game design in itself. This has nothing to do with the game design. You've written much, but said very little and missed the points I was refering to with my previous post.

What about the cards themselves? are they defined in the server where you have the ability to change them as well as making new cards using existing skins? They are defined in client.

Did EA refuse to give you the game code? They didn't refuse anything, it's their right not to share their Intellectual Property for free.

IMO, priority should be given to resolving existing issues vs new features such as 6P PvE. Agreed, solving issues over QoL changes and small additions.

That must be a server issues where you have 100% control. Nope, the client "chockes" a bit, server has mostly nothing to do with it. All the freezes are from the client.

I reported these issues couple a months ago along with all the game logs and I believe they haven't been resolved yet. Slowly, but surely it will be.

Perhaps you can improve the log reports so they can give you more information about the root causes. Easier said than done.

There is also a common issue where Unranked 2v2 PvP doesn't give gold when a player quits the game when defeat is obvious. Will be fixed eventually.

Then there is the "play any type of game" quest that doesn't take to consideration games shorter than 10 minutes. Also will be fixed eventually.

We all freelancers, doing this in free time, with no source code. We had to reverse engineer binaries for over 2 years to be able to pull some of the updates you already see on the server. It's not matter of weeks or a month as everything we'd like to do takes enormously large amount of time due to the lacking of source code.

  4. Check what, my friend? You provided only a sentence of an info. No logs, no screenshots, no videos, and not following the bug report template.

Lags and and freezes are ordinary, just wait out until they stop and game catches up.

Having worked on a project I know that most of the changes are simple edits to the scripts that change the cards as well as an edit to the card itself if it is not an auto update based on the script.

    Can't recall this.

And no, it's not just scripts, some "configuration" files from CFF archives in PAKs are needed to be changed. Just because you see a client-side effect of the change you made, doesn't mean the other player will see it without same appropriate file edit/update.

Maybe not, thanks for pointing it out.

To claryfy: I was talking about the new updater that is written with .net 4.61. The launcher i think works fine.

I was not talking about open sourcing the whole project, but only specifically the the SkylordsRebornUpdater.exe
I don't think that has anything to do with auction house, chat, etc.

If one could apply to just doing that? Maybe I can find a free weekend.

My bad then, I was talking about Launcher.exe, which holds the stuff I mentioned. Updater, as far as I know, does not have any sensitive data apart from our endpoints from which it downloads the game files. Best bet would be to wait Aviator and/or Hawk, since they made it and maintain it.

Unfortunately, not gonna happen. Would open up every single abusing possibility, plus you would have an insight in ours and Battleforge's architecture.

I explained it right here, I'm sorry but it seems like you don't understand even the basic concepts of guaranteed security issues caused by proposed open sourcing.

Auction house bot, PvE farming bot, chat message spamming, ingame mail spamming, group request spamming, show deck request spamming... the list goes on. Don't even get me started on what's wrong with exposing client part of authentication process.

  8. I'm all for improving the discussion, but your (not your directly, generally) previous comments don't help, neither do mine. I, personally and as a member of the team, at this moment feel attacked, and that's certainly not the treatment we should receive after spending 5 years volunteering on bringing this game back. We certainly don't want to drive this into the ground, however you must understand that constant pressuring and this way of communication does not benefit anyone. You can't force us into something, just as we can't force you to agree with some of our decisions. Unfortunately, that's how world works.

These kinds of threads almost always get blown out of proportion and get out of hands quickly.

Maybe youtubers will help , but so far, the number is only decreasing

Decreasing? 8 days ago a forum record for concurrent users was broken.

We also recently 60k registered accounts, so I don't see how it's decreasing.

  10. Contacting several YouTubers, making a small "marketing campaign".

As for the new and updated content, nothing much on that part yet, we're still trying to push the game to it's limits to see what can be added, changed, removed. And Kubik, Hawk and Link are in better position to talk about that.

May I ask then what the team's target and roadmap is for this game? What will be done to attract new players and get them to stay? What will be done for more people excelling in this game? As mentioned earlier, the number of people truly understanding the game mechanics is very limited (I think there are more than 20, but not many more), do you not want the figure to grow? What is your plan for that?

Not in position to give out these details. Some things are planned, but out of my current reach. When the time comes, everything will be transparent.

Thanks for hearing us out and giving us a chance to have an influence on your final decision. Sorry for literally giving you all the points in the world to why this is not a good decision, so you can just ignore it.

No problem, no one ignored anything, it was overruled by the entire team.

  12. 2 minutes ago, ktoeto said:

I mark your words "Whole team", where is the player participation part?

Doesn't look like you've given any facts too.

Well, we run this thing and we make the final decisions. Players do have a participation part, which can influence the final decision. In this case it didn't, but for example in Quests and Achievements cases they did.

At least I'm not blatantly calling people out and calling them names.

Just shows how your team is open for suggestions and criticism, great attitude.

Whole team agreed on the wipe. Years ago. End of story.

We're opened for suggestions, we discuss each one.

Criticism is well expected, if it's fact based, which you haven't done until now, only name calling. We're not top AAA game studio nor professionals, most of us ain't near 30, as said a while ago.

  14. 2 minutes ago, ktoeto said:

Please don't make up numbers, and do a straw poll. Your 2000 players count is off.. by around 1995.

Lmao, we contacted those sites a while ago, they gave us a rough estimate on players waiting for Open Beta as we specifically asked them to. Neither have that data, nor I'm willing to search back to find it. Take it as made up, as far as I'm concerned.

Bottom line, the wipe is happening, regardless of any polls and countless threads/posts about it.

No one asks for an inventory transfer. There was a change suggestion made originally by Kybaka which you should at least consider watching.

The fact that so many players disagree to it, shows how many flaws it has.

It was considered, do you really think we just blatantly ignore suggestions of this scale?

Can you count how many players disagree with it? I can just say that Russians at vk.com/skylordsreborn and some Polish guys at mmorpg.org.pl are definetly waiting for wipe, and them alone are around 2000 players.

You knew there was going to be a wipe when wilfully signing up for an account here.

To make things clear, I'm refering to the "no wipe please" and not the change suggestion you're refering to.

  16. There is nothing to win or lose with these arguments.

Wipe was mentioned years ago, and we keep stating it ever since. I don't know what must happen to change that fact.

Just because some of you strongly disagree with the decision, it doesn't mean the decision is bad by default.

Nowhere else are you going to see an inventory transfer from Closed Alpha / Beta / Stress Test to Open Beta / Release. Nowhere!

Needless to say, the conversations here got pretty out of hand, no need for calling names and insulting, so keep it polite please.

  17. This is a voluntary project, no one is getting paid. When did you volunteer for something for years?

You thank us and are grateful in start of the post, just to throw random accusations and bashes with no provided facts in the rest.

We all are amateur students/developers, so I don't know which level of Triple A company organization you expect. Most of us aren't even near 30.

Performance of our code is widely affected by the core game, made by EA and reverse engineered by us for years. Not all bugs will be fixable as there are limits to what can be done when you don't have the source code.

No progress being done, yet the server restarts for the updates every now and then. Just because there is no changelog, doesn't mean no work is being done.

Just because you got handled in a certain way by a moderator (who I'm sure did nothing wrong), it does not give you right to render us all "unprofessional it's just sad".

Everyone has a right to give their opinion on card balancing, whether they have 50 hours or 50000 hours of gameplay. Just like you gave your opinion, they have the right to give theirs.

Don't think we didn't look for new developers elsewhere, yes we did but guess what - so far no one is willing to invest themselves for free or they got near acception phase but just ghosted, meaning they were probably in for the code. It isn't as easy to recruit trusted and skilled developer, but I guess you know better than us doing this for almost 5 years straight.

Balancing of the game hasn't even had it's surface scratched, yet you're caps-locking that we will fudge up the game beyond recognition.

No, the player base won't be even smaller after the wipe, it will be few times bigger.

    What 1500$????

So you just made an account to make this post, that isn't even true? What's the purpose though?

Not to mention you breaking rules about bumping old threads.

If you doubt us, you can freely choose not to play on this server. Plenty of others are out there, right? The money is being saved for future usage and bigger costs because of pricier equipment that will be needed if we ever surpass the count of few hundred concurrent players to a few thousand.

Thanks for the nice comment, however no dates are known at this point.

Why would you need to grind though? Play casually just to get the feel of the game, then you won't be sorry or depressed once we reset the progress :)
