Colossus - Upcoming Changes

As part of our upcoming Nature balance changes, Colossus will be receiving the following proposed changes. Please note that all changes proposed here are provisional and as such as subject to change:

Iteration 1
1. Thunderous Roar Rework
   A. Releases a bloodcurdling roar that riles up Colossus. The unit will deal 75% more damage for 25 seconds. Additionally, Lumbering Step is activated for 25 seconds. Reusable every 35 / 35 / 35 / 30 seconds.
2. Lumbering Step:
   A. Turn Speed - Increase turn speed by 50% for the duration
   B. Damages nearby units for 200 damage, up to 1000 in total.
   C. Description: "While moving around unit knocks back small, medium and large units dealing 200 damage, up to 1000 intotal to enemies in a 12m radius. Affects ground targets only. "
 3. New Ability - Colossal Birth - When being spawned the unit is undazed and displaces the earth, knocking back small, medium, and large units. Can be spawned nearby enemy units and structures excluding walls. Affects ground targets only.

Iteration 1 Goals
Recent discussions suggested a trample mechanic for Colossus much in line with Worm Earth Dive and Thunder Wagon's Rampage. We think this is a good idea and dovetails well with Colossus's existing swift speed. After looking closely at Colossus's spawn animation, we think it would be fitting to give the unit an on-spawn ability similar to units like Emberstrike and Tempest. This will also give the player increased flexibility to spawn in a Colossus when needed and be able to immediately make use of its abilities.

We decided to tie the trample "Lumbering Step" together with the Thunderous Roar rework. Thunderous Roar now gives Colossus a self-buff of +75% damage, allowing Colossus to function as a structure killer and the anti-boss unit that Nature frequently requires. Lumbering Step then enables Colossus to start trampling foes and make a beeline for priority targets as it knocks back all sizes except extra-large.

I think lumbering step would make a lot more sense as a toggle while lowering travel speed. colossus currently fills the important role of boss duelist in pure nature but is needlessly clunky when it comes to every other usecase because hes faster than elder and watchers. Lumbering step provides a thematically appropriate way for him to fit in pure natures target comps if it was made a toggle while reducing his travel speed to standard xl.

Iteration 1 and its goals have been completely revamped for Colossus.

Additionally, we are interested in the community's thoughts on removing Colossus's normal Swift ability and connecting it to Lumbering Step instead. The idea is that this way Colossus would be the same speed as the other units a Nature player typically makes uses, such as Forest Elder and Primeval Watcher.

I think that train of thought is focussed too much on rPVE. In cPVE, you may want to spawn two Colossus and have your "Swift Dudes" have a go. Nature is quite the slow faction anyway, removing the Swift is just one step making it slower no matter if you want to or not.

For unit grouping, it's actually better if colossi can use swift to Leroy jenkins first into fights as it will combo extremely

well with flying units.

If you really need to shave that value for balancing, keep in mind a lot of people forget Bloodhorn has swift.

It's a very weak trait at t4.

i think it would make most sense to have one mode be swift and anothe rhave the lumbering step with the standard movement speed, then nature players can still choose to use wyrms and colossus or now also be able to use colossus with elder and watchers

1. Not really interesting.
2. Sounds fun.
3. Soulhunter v2.0

I can't force myself to play colossus regardless having it at deck. After changes will be worth it. Good job.

Ps. It's possible that it will declass Forest Elder. I would suggest to check on the kitty because it's not at best state right now 😞

Did you check out the changes to forest elder that have been recently done?

Elder (P) needs some detailwork still, but with the Magic Link Forest Elder (G) could be considered one of the most useful units in the game

Yes i did but compare to requirement and cost it's not so awesome anymore and i think that colossus will be slightly better.
