Plans for long-term stability

It's been a blast reading through this thread, seeing both sides of the coin really puts progress into perspective.

I love how Zyna and Lada manage the project currently, it surely wasn't a smooth ride up to this point. There's just so many things to be done and to manage it in such a small team is a full time job. For how the whole team managed this time of huge workload and even bigger community expectations I have the upmost respect.

As they mention in on of their latest announcements, staff expansion an restructuring has taken away time from progress being made in other parts of the project. As many other I was disappointed in the slow 'visual' progress being made so I tried to help out where I saw the biggest unused potential: Balancing. That didn't work out, but showed me where I could do some good for the project: Descriptions.

I encourage everyone interested in the project to do the same. Involve yourself in parts of the game you're interested, there's much work to be done and much to be learned. The job doesn't pay in cash but in invaluable experience.

In my opinion the SR team severely lacks a community embassator, a consistent flow of information, scheduled announcements and transparency. We know there are plans to improve on those front and I'm looking forward to welcome the brave soul who willingly collects information from the different parts of the project to regularly communicate the good and bad new from to the community. It certainly will need to be someone with thick skin, authorial and charming personality who doesn't mind being a public figure.

the reason i left the game was because a developer was attacking me in discord, a second dev came in stood by me that the other dev was rude then after a while joined forces against me out of nothing... if you ask me what is wrong with the community is that some players are treated like shit cause one of the devs had a bad day, what i asked for back then was for help to login testing and he was only rude to me.

To me this game is dead and the community will soon follow what is wrong with this all.

Remember WoW dev said once "We did not make it big because of players" and then lost thousands of players after that statement.

Don't get me wrong but I stopped playing Guild wars 2 for the same reason, that dev got kicked out and I returned...

But i will not backup a game with devs that treat people this way, I rather spend my money elsewhere

I hope I'm not necroing this post but, personally, I think if the game has any hope to survive and thrive it MUST hit one of the major platforms those beig either Steam or GoG.

The game is already in GoG's Dreamlist with at least 73 votes to date and some very good comments (from myself included), as far as I can tell we may have a better chance of it being avaible in that platform then Steam itself given it's age and innovative design!

I'll also add that, although I'm thankfull for the staff keeping the game alive specially with new updates, it's really necessary that you guys increase the quality control on what you release, SPECIALLY when it comes to meddling with the campaign mode, I can only say that my personal experience with the newest campaign missions were...disappointment to say the least. Which is why I beleive we should focus more in player made maps and PVP and maybe take on more perspectives from other players both Narratively and Gameplaywise.

Who knows, this could be a good way to find new staff members to help improve on the game and later on give valuable insight to refine what you guys can deliver.

1) For Steam and GoG, it’s almost impossible. The game is still EA property, knowing the company it’s already a miracle that they allowed this project. We can’t monetize the game in any way, including any form of monetary advertisement. Platform like Steam or GoG won’t cut it.

2) Your speaking of unexpected visitors and into the jungle ?

UV is hard, you need to know the map before playing (no standard diff, special ennemies and mechanics, and adv is hard on this map). However it’s not bad in term of replayability.

Into the jungle however, I don’t see where’s the problem. The map ain’t hard, and it’s a lot of fun with all the ways you can play it once you got T2.

3) Well, the 2 new maps were player made maps originally 😎. But yea, new and original community maps would be cool.

4) PvP is really a small part of the community, less than 15%. It’s not what is keeping the community alive (coming from other RTS game, I know PvP isn’t what’s always keeping a game alive). Of course it is important to maintain the balance there, but it’s not what will keep the community alive on the long term.

1) I'm more willing to believe that once we get a direct confirmation from the team itself.

2) My problem wasn't with the Difficulty itself but rather with the fact those maps had clear issues with it's mechanics such as the Monolith given to you in the first map of the Amii Campaign being breakable and not being able to build it again, I'm not sure if it was fixed in a previous patch I've missed or this current one though so might be outdated take to be fair.

3) I still think preserving the original campaign and putting more incentives in player made maps, sepcially more visibility to it in the World Map, could prove more beneficial in the short-mid run of the game. This is a topic I'm waiting for a definitive judgment by the team as well, they naturally have more data on the matter then any of us.

4) I'm a PVE player myself, never really cared for that aspect of BF since I was pretty casual even back in the day, I've only brought it up because I'm aware there is a group of people who enjoy it and...who knows what the future holds for BF .¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not sure why people keep necroing a thread from 2021. People come in for a new patch, and the latest comment is doomsaying about the dead of the game is not a good look. Not sure what people hope to gain with it. But anyway.. I'll try to answer the questions.

1. We are unfortunately not allowed to bring the game to Steam/GoG/etc. The BattleForge IP is from EA. We are not allowed to do paid advertisement either. We wish we could do more, but we cant. Player numbers have been stable over the years though.

2. I'm not sure if im understanding you correctly, but unlocking the amii monument on that map is an optional quests. If you lose the shrine thats powering it, it is indeed destroyed. That's just the unique design of the map, just like ITJ has the Phantoms building up Power Wells. It was a bit unclear when the map released how this mechanic worked, and we have learned to not overload the players with info/mechanics like that in future maps.

3. We already made various adjustments to Community Maps; including ''featured community maps'', increasing rewards, and making achievements/quests that care about them (even as recent as the patch from Sunday). While putting them on the world map comes up every so often, its not super easy to do so in a way that works satisfactory. Additionally; unfortunately there are barely any new maps being made by the community, even after we provided a extensive map making tutorial.

4. We had a bigger focus on PvP in the beginning, and were met with a lot of critique, even to this day. It has become clear the PvP scene is simply too small to carry the game. We still focus on both PvE and PvP, but PvP is not the lifeblood of the game. That being said, a new PvP map is scheduled to release soon.

I hope that answers your questions.

Hey Majora.

Thanks alot for the awnsers!

I was hoping the Dreamlist from GOG, which is their program of keeping old games alive, would at the very least be an option to bring more visibility even if it wasn't possible to bring Battle Forge to the platform and maybe bring  attention to players who haven't played the game before or even heard of it.

On the Amii Monument I was not really clear since it's been a while since I last played it, the monument I was reffering to is the one you get to unlock in the Amii city when you are defending against the hordes which is quite essential, that one is destructible and it can't be restored for whatever reason, I hope it's more clear this way.

Also I'd like to apologise for necroing this post, I'll be more mindfull and create new topics from now on, this will be my last menssage in this thread.

Have a good one!
