Suggestions to Improve Card Design Variety & Map Content

Featured Replies

Hello Skylords Reborn Team,

First of all, thank you for your continuous efforts in developing and maintaining the game.

I would like to suggest a few ideas that could significantly improve the overall player experience:

1. Card Design Variety
Currently, many cards feel too similar in design, with differences mainly limited to colors. I believe it would be much better if each card color had its own unique visual identity rather than being simple recolors of the same template.

We are looking for radical design changes, not just color swaps. Each faction/color should feel visually distinct and memorable.

If creating completely new designs is challenging, you could consider using AI-generated concepts as inspiration to introduce more creativity and uniqueness.

Examples:

Fire cards: more aggressive, chaotic, flame-heavy designs

Nature cards: organic, forest-themed, natural shapes

Shadow cards: darker, distorted, mysterious aesthetics

Frost cards: sharp, crystalline, icy visuals

2. More Maps & Seasonal Expansion
The game would benefit greatly from adding more maps. Additionally, introducing map expansions every season would keep the game fresh and give players something new to explore regularly.

3. New Color Concepts
It would also be interesting to explore new primary colors or themes, instead of sticking only to the current ones. For example, introducing a yellow-based faction or unique color identity could bring fresh gameplay and visual diversity.

Thank you for considering these suggestions. I believe these changes could greatly enhance both the visual appeal and longevity of the game

Hello @Firedancer2,

I do not know, if you are aware or not, but we do not have source code of the game, so in my opinion it is almost a miracle, that we managed to run the game in the first place, let alone the amount of cards and maps we already added.

AI does not really help with this process, at least the cheap one does not, so unless you have access to expensive stuff and want us to try it out, there is not much more we can do at this moment. (I want to warn you that it might be over 100000$ quickly with no useful results if if borrow full data center for a while)

Some of things you mentioned already have been added to the game. There have been a total of three new campaign maps thus far, several new cards, some being reskins/retextures, others being unique spells, and the Amii faction has been greatly expanded, effectively adding a new faction with its own colourscheme to the game.

The limiting factor with the card models being reskins is that we currently can't add completely new models with unique animations and everything to the game yet, but some people are actively working on that, so recolouring and retexturing is the best we can do as of now mostly. Adding new maps is generally possible and has benn done before (Unexpected Visitors, Into the Jungle and Heart of Trouble), but creating, scripting, designing, decorating and balancing maps is a hugely time intensive task, usually taking months of time from many people, which all just work on it in their free time.

I mean, nobody would be opposed to every unit having its unique model but ... how?

Reskins already take a lot of time and effort to make them look good. Adding new models and animations for everything on top of that is simply unfeasible with the resources we have.

Maps are constantly in development. But they too take a lot of time, testing, reiterating.

We would also love to add new color factions but the existing colors aren't even in perfect shape yet and Amii is still incomplete. Fixing up existing factions takes priority right now.

Overall, we are working on everything you would like to see because we would like it as well. But it takes time and not only are our resources very limited, we can't even change many aspects of the game. A ton of new cards and bug fixes required somebody digging into the guts of the game and somehow finding out how to make it work basically from scratch. Many things we still don't know how they work or why they do what they do. And it's not for a lack of trying but because it's like searching for a needle in a haystack.
