The first one is instant and without a problem, the other one however is repeated many times also refreshing the shield (tested by Erupting while he was casting his shield etc.). It is a minor bug, but may be a problem in PvE, because there is little ways of bursting him down in these 1 - 2 seconds when his shield is practically infinite.
