Achievment "Codebreaker"

Recommended Posts

Hi Skyloards,

is someone else trying the achievment "Codebreaker" at the moment? Here is the Achievement:

I managed to get the "Dwarven Riddle" scenario done, but its realy hard to do this on "Guns of Lyr". At the moment i'm failing on the major assault. Here is my best try with some fails:

What's your experience with this achievment?

Hi JackDebellator,

the Codebreaker achievement is definitely a tough one! Respect for getting this far. I’ve been in the same situation and managed to succeed after several attempts. Here’s the replay of my final successful run—it might help.

Here’s the deck code I used:

Take a look and hopefully it helps. Best of luck with cracking the achievement!

Cheers

Hi Jack,

I watched your replay, and I noticed that it was quite close several times, especially in the early game.
I really liked how you moved the Deepcoil Worm to push the units away—that was a great strategy!

Honestly, I’m just glad I managed to finish it myself. Time-wise, there’s definitely still a lot of room for improvement.

Cheers,
Markus

Guns of Lyr (Codebreaker).pmv

Hi, i have recently done the Codebreaker achievement, so i wanted to share my own strats for those who are struggling with the two maps.

MZF-KIPgSQLlGuLsPoRmacXpXyFqOuEGQiIvT7TzM (Guns of Lyr deck)

MEUqVCNiF-MaFiLKU9P5F0M7FKMMUcTEGlKxXAaGN (Dwarven Riddle pure fire deck)

For Guns of Lyr, i mostly went with Markus34222 deck, just switched some cards to make the run easier, at least for me. The trick to this map is to not waste a second and rush to frost orb shown in replay. Then you refresh on repeat glaciation just as it is about to run out, until you use Enlightenment and bring out first Shadow Worm. One at bottom, second at fortress, with kobold fixing it, third at bottom, and fourth at fortress again. Once you have the defence of two shadow worms on disintegrate mode, razorleaf with 2 thornbarks to boost it, viridya and skydancer on healing mode, your defence is set on both sides. The rest you can see on replay is pretty much taking your time until you are ready to kill final waves.

For Dwarven Riddle, sadly i forgot to save the replay, but it's pretty easy. The trick is to start from pos 4 and rush to the top orb with 3 nomads, eruption the crystals, peck away 2 top towers with sunstriders, and then use fire altar to clear out the Bandit Lord unit. Then you sit and wait until you farmed about 3k power, the shadow unit patrols will completely ignore the top orb, so consider it a safe zone. Then you use the fire altar again, quickly rush down and get 3 orbs fast. Once that is done, get at starting position 4 dragons and about 3 molochs, supported by unity, cluster explosion, bloodthirst and Fire Sphere. From there it's a race to the crystals. Make sure your fire dragons are always buffed with unity and bloodthirst, so they don't die, and pay attention to the timer, so you can get your dragons back to support molochs with fire waves until the final push. Once the guardians are dead on your side, it's pretty much taking your time until you clear out all the guardians on other side.

Hope this helps 🙂

Since I used some of these resources to obtain the achievement myself it is probably only fair to share my findings as well.

Guns of Lyr: Nature - Frost - Nature - Shadow  (MiKuLZFdXvT-KlGkIPLyFULDXpXIPQLjauE9MsXzM)

Unfortunately Jacks replay gets desynced pretty early on when replayed now so I had to do a lot of testing until I could find a working build order. The build order used by SoulLord does look a bit easier to pull off but seems to require multiple charges of Enlightenment. My "budget" version required more accurate spell usage (cc, Thunderstorm) and micro (Deepcoil worm). The T2 orb can be grabbed with a single Swiftclaw and 1 Surge of Light so I would recommend getting that first and then running to the T3 after.

The most crucial parts to figure out for me were how much defense is needed to survive the big waves (around 11 and 17 min iirc, been a while) without expending too much power. I personally didnt focus too much on Shadow Worms since I do not have Promo Viridya to play her in both camps but it should be a strong option if you do. Clearing all the side twilight camps is not needed as long as you do not advance the NPC engineer up to the cannon.

My focus was on getting T4 asap since my defense would not be able to hold up indefinitely with scaling waves. Defending the first final wave at the bottom was tricky as well but a mix of Razorleafs/Rifle Cultists with spell support should not have too much trouble. It is okay to fall back to the middle as well and rebuild the T1/T2 orbs afterwards. Clearing the other spawner should be trivial afterwards since there wont be any more attacks from the south.

Dwarven Riddle: Nature - Shadow - Nature - X (MqFiIuLZFCavTrJsPENTPDLYUHTULIPQLELmazM9M)

Microing your Werebeasts pathing properly on t1 is highly recommended as it translates into a huge tempo gain that can be used to clear the Bandit Waystation before you kill the crystals which makes it so once you trigger the altar you can instantly get all wells + T2, which will be ready in time to defend against the first wave. Amii Paladins felt really strong to defend against the altar wave but most reasonably strong units should work.

I do not know how the size of the incoming "altar" wave is determined, there were vastly different attack waves coming in during different attempts of this for me. In my successful attempt the amount of incoming enemies was a lot less than before so maybe its just random?

Other than that just standard tactics on this map, Green Peace is very strong to defend against the final wave as well (only found out about that card after completing this part of the achievement). If you can figure out how to not make the game spawn large attack waves you can skip out on a lot of defense (in my case Shadow Worms) and focus on clearing out crystals sooner instead.

In case anyone was interested, I streamed a codebreaker run of Guns of Lyr a bit ago:

Pretty sure I did dwarven riddle at some point on stream also, but that one is a lot easier 🙂
