Greetings Skylords!
A new month; a new Community Update! It's time to bring you up to speed with everything going on in Skylords Reborn!
This month, we have reached another major milestone in the Skylords Reborn journey, we are celebrating 5 years since the release! Join us for our first community-wide challenge in the game to get some boosters and a celebratory profile border!
We wanted to do something different, it's been quite a while since we last gave you an insight into our map making efforts. As such, we have decided to give you a retrospective into the development process of our latest campaign map - Heart of Trouble.
• Five Year Anniversary
Happy Anniversary, Skylords! This December 18th marks the fifth year since the release of Skylords Reborn. It's been quite the journey these past five years, as we continued and built upon the legacy of the original BattleForge. We have introduced new features, like Reforging, profile cosmetics and free PvP decks. We released new campaign maps, cards and many balance changes, with even more yet to come. We also hosted a variety of tournaments and events, most of them with help from the amazing community.
To celebrate this occasion, we are starting our first community-wide challenge in the game! Starting 1st of December 2025, there will be a counter on the world-map.
Every win of a campaign map, featured community map, PvP or rPvE scenario will be added to the global counter and rewards will be unlocked at certain milestones for the whole community!
At 10 000 wins, we will give away a General Booster At 20 000 wins, we will give away a Rebirth Booster At 30 000 wins, we will give away a unique profile border At 40 000 wins, we will give away 30 Seasonal Points Anybody who participates by winning at least one scenario will receive all the rewards unlocked by the community.
Thank you for your support over the years, we couldn't have gone so far without you. 🎉
Now, go win some matches, Skylords!
• Heart of Trouble Retrospective
We wanted to try something new and give you some behind the scenes into campaign maps, both released, and in development.
We will start off slow with our latest campaign addition - Heart of Trouble.
The initial design came to life back in 2023 and was done by our map designer Hrdina Impéria. Here are his insights.
• Initial Designs
The initial design was made to be a very compact map, small in scope and short in playtime. The objective was to destroy all the spawners of all the enemy tribes while protecting the Ragged King. If the player took too long, Bandit Battleships would start spawning from the tribal areas, slowly advancing towards the fort.
To allow having all the monuments in one centralized area, we opted to lock them behind destroying crystals in the tribal areas, thus ensuring correct map progression.
However, since the Ragged King was not in any danger, the objective felt disjointed from what was actually happening on the map. You were protecting yourself, not the Ragged King. The spawning Bandit ships had a feeling of unfairness, as the player's run could be cut short at the last minute by the attacking Bandit Battleships.
With the objective being "destroy all spawners" the map lacked some deeper tactical decision making and it came down to a complete map clear as an objective. The map size also proved to be a problem when aggro issues started popping up - defenders from several positions aggroed to the player at once, which led to more frustration.
We attempted to fix these issues in the following iterations.
• Early Stages
By the end of 2023, we greenlit the map design and started iterating on it further.
The first issue we needed to tackle was the small map size that prevented us from making any major changes. So we exported the map from 256x256 to a 512x512 map, which gave us much more room to work with.
We then moved the Ragged King to the actual fort, and put him inside a Bandit Shanty building. Having the Ragged King as a unit could lead to him getting pulled outside of the fort by the enemy attackers and would frustrate the players (think Rogan on Encounters with Twilight).
We also added the option to decide where the player wants to send the allied attack waves, giving him a feeling of control and a useful ally. But this ran into a problem with map progression. Since both tribes could be cleared with either T2 or T3, it meant that one of the tribes would be too easy once the player destroys one of the crystals. So we introduced a unique mechanic, where a tribe's defenders grow stronger as you clear more of the opposing tribe, leading to a more natural and balanced map progression.
To alleviate the feeling of unfairness, we removed the spawning Bandit Battleships and instead introduced scaling attack waves, that got harder over time. While the player could still fall behind on the difficulty curve, it fixed the sudden, unexpected loss condition appearing 20+ minutes into the map.
Now the most pressing issues were fixed, we needed to add some more tactical decision making into playing the map. This came in the form of changing the main objective, and adding some optional ones.
• Final Stage
Around the middle of 2024, we changed the main objective from destroying the spawners to killing the tribal leaders. And added the option to taunt the final boss to your fort, adding a risk vs. reward factor - you can meet the boss with the defenders advantage, but if you cannot kill him, you lose.
We added an optional objective in the form of the enemy artilleries. These introduced a minor RNG element into the map and intensified the feeling of being under pressure and constant threat. You could capture the artilleries, but they kept randomly bombarding the area surrounding the fort, rarely hitting the enemies. As such, capturing them felt like a very small reward to actually interact with the mechanic, so we gave them the ability you know today. Giving the players a powerful, targetable ability, that could help with defending, and attacking.
Up until this stage, the tribal attack waves came from a cave at the end of each tribal area. This however, was also disjointed from the events on the map. If the attacks are coming from those caves, why does destroying the spawners stop the attacks? It made little sense, so we made a custom spawning script, that allowed us to spawn parts of the wave from multiple locations and used the already existing spawners for spawning the attacks. Thus giving them another reason to exist, apart from being an obstacle in your way.
While testing, we ran into an issue that the Black and Yellow tribes were too similar. Since they were practically identical, the decision which side to push was pretty much inconsequential. After a brief discussion, it was clear we needed to differentiate them heavily. Thus the Black tribe was given a strong ground presence with artilleries, but weak AA. The Yellow tribe, on the other hand, was composed of a lot of flying units and heavy AA, but was weak to long range siege. This gave each tribe a unique identity and introduced new deck building strategies.
With the changed main objective, control of the allied waves, changes to the enemy wave spawning and tribal compositions, we introduced a lot of decision making into the map. The players could choose to use the allies to help them push the tribes, or help defend against the attacks from the other side. If the player is skilled enough, he can choose to leave the spawners alive and focus on killing the bosses quickly. Will he taunt the boss to fight on advantageous ground, or kill him in his own camp without risk.
As you can see, developing maps is lengthy work, we could not share all the trials and errors we had to go through to find the final version of the map. While we are getting closer to better understanding the fundamentals of map design, we are far from perfect. Each new map introduces new and unexpected challenges to overcome, but we are making every effort to deliver you the best experience possible.
This is all the information we could share in a community update; many more details and decisions happened, but writing about all of them would befit its own forum post. If you enjoyed this little dip into our map making efforts, and are interested in more behind the scenes of our maps, please let us know in the comments.
Maybe next time we will share something not shown before. *wink* *wink*

Strek0za liked a post in a topic by Ilsyde in tweaks: zoom, third-person camera, custom resolutions, lock cursor
http://i.imgur.com/KnbUg33.png
Here is a quick overview of the tweaks you'll find in this post:
- skip intro videos
the one you can't seem to get rid of no matter how hard you keep smasing the Esc key
- set a custom resolution
you don't have to make due with the in-game defaults
- snap cursor to window boundaries (recommended in windowed mode)
confines mouse cursor inside the game window
Before we start:
The configuration file titled config.xml is by default found under C:\Users\<username>\Documents\BattleForge
You may open this file by right-clicking on it, then selecting Open With > Choose Default Program… and selecting Notepad, though you may use any other text editor.
- do not try to edit this file while Battleforge is running, otherwise the settings you made might get overwritten
- do not make the file read-only otherwise the game won’t start
- do not forget to save the file after you’ve made changes to it, and before you start Battleforge again
- Skip intro videosThe Battleforge intro is unskippable and gets annoying rather quickly. Open the config.xml file as described above and find the following entry:
skip_intro_movies="0"
Then change the number between the two quotation marks to 1, as the example shows below:
skip_intro_movies="1"
The third-person camera (click to preview) is included in all three modded files as a bonus. I’ve lowered the default minimum camera angle so you can zoom in real close with the mouse wheel to admire those… assets… *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*
- Set a custom resolution
Since the game engine only supports hor+ and can't handle ver+ (to utilise 16:10 and other vertical widescreen ratios), the wider screen you have, the better.
Having a larger horizontal viewing area will give you an advantage in both PvE and PvP at the expense of vertical image size. You have to make a decision whether this trade-off is worth it.
First, open the config.xml file as described above and find the following two entries:
screenheight="####" and screenwidth="####"
Between the quotation marks you'll see numbers, instead of # signs. These are the current vertical and horizontal resolutions (respectively). Change these to whatever you're comfortable with but don't reduce screenheight below 650, as GUI elements that don't scale will be partially cropped. My advice is to always maximise the horizontal resolution, then decide on the vertical number of pixels depending on your preference.
Note that if you were to use the in-game Settings menu after this step, Battleforge will reset the resolution to default (screenheight="768" and screenwidth="1024") therefore you'll be required to modify the config.xml file again.
Next, find the following entry:
fullscreen="1"
This might already be set to 0, buit if it isn't then change the number between the two quotation marks in order to enter windowed mode, like so:
fullscreen="0"
By using a smaller vertical resolution nothing gets lost or cropped, however everything on the screen will be that much smaller to allow for additional horizontal screen space.
Here is an example of a 24:10 window ratio that - in essence - gives you 50% more horizontal viewing area by reducing vertical image size by 33% (i.e. running the game in 1920x804 instead of 1920x1200).
- Snap cursor to window boundaries (recommended in windowed mode)
Whether you have to, or choose to play Battleforge in windowed mode, you'll notice how awkward it is to scroll around the map by using either the arrow or WASD keys. Moving the mouse cursor to one of the screen borders requires way too much precision, as there is nothing to keep the cursor within the boundaries of the game window. Fortunately there is an application called Cursor Lock created by SnakeByte Studios. It's purpose is to confine the mouse cursor inside a specified window.
You may download the tool by clicking on this link: http://www.snakebytestudios.com/download/cursor-lock/
Once downloaded and installed, double-click on CursorLockSetup.exe to launch the application. You need to change some of the settings before running Battleforge:
1) While on the Shortcut tab, click Program Mode. This should be selected by default.
2) Under Program Options, tick the box next to Open Program and click the browse button on the right to navigate to the location where you've installed the Battleforge client. Select BFRebornLauncher.exe then press OK.
3) Under Program Options, tick the box next to Lock Program and click the browse button on the right to navigate to the location where you've installed the Battleforge client. Select BattleForge.exe then press OK.
4) Under Standard Options, tick the box next to Lock Region and select Window Interior from the drop down box.
Finally, click the Create Shortcut button in the bottom right corner of the window. Save the shortcut to your Desktop, or to your preferred location. You'll need to run Battleforge using this shortcut from now on.
However, you don't need to run Cursor Lock ever again (it starts and shuts itself down automatically as required).
The mouse cursor will now snap to the inner part of the game window, allowing you to scroll around the map by moving the mouse cursor to the edges - just like in full screen.
Below is a snapshot to guide you with setting up Cursor Lock:

Edit by DragonOfime: This thread is for reference purposes, so people know which general issues the staff are aware of. It is NOT for posting your own issues. Please follow the proper procedure if you have a problem to report.
Edit by Ultrakool: Thread outdated as of 1.1.19
Hi,
As you might have noticed we are having some issues with the servers since the start of the open stress test. Here are the most common known issues that the Devs are working on. There is no need to report these issues if you encounter them and it is pointless to ask what you can do about it or when it will be solved. The Devs are already working on it as fast as they can. So please be patient.
Disconnect upon entering the forge
This means you timed out when trying to connect. This happens when there are too many login attempts at the same time, so please wait and try again later. The Devs are already working on a solution.
Account not activated
Your account is activated if you can login to this forum. No email is sent, so you can ignore this message and just retry to login.
Freeze/disconnect ingame or at loading screen
Freezes and disconnects while creating a lobby, loading a game, being in the AH, in the forge, ingame, clicking on a map on the worldmap etc. are normal atm due to the servers being unstable. The Devs are working on it to fix this. No need to report this unless it happens after specific actions that you can reproduce each time.
No progression or gold/XP rewards after match
When you finish a PvE match, you wont receive any gold or XP and the next map or difficulty is not unlocked.
Discord announcement from Fiki (2018-09-18)
Let's clear some stuff up:
- We're aware of all possible crashes, disconnects and freezes, you don't need to ping us or notify every now and then
- The crashes, disconnects and freezes are random and not player or server specific, works for some, doesnt for rest
- Do not trigger multiple actions (like switching from auction house to world map) fast one after another, give it 10-15 seconds
- Just because you can't log in or you get disconnected, doesn't mean the servers are offline, they're just "refusing" your connection
- Lobby or loading screen freezes are not map or player specific as well, they're also random
- Inability to buy card upgrades is still being looked into
- Mails, trades and decks should be less problematic, but still could have occasional problem or crash
- Losing your BFP is unfortunately permanent at this stage, however we're looking at causes of them (you can't get your BFP back though)
- Losing your cards in failed mailings or trades is permanent at this stage, however we're also looking into this (you can't get your items back)
- If you notice that you've lost BFP or anything else, immediately relog, it could be returned upon next entering
- Logging out and logging back in usually solves most of the problems (as well as launcher restarting)
- When you encounter a bug, make sure you can reproduce it at least 3 out of 5 times before reporting it
- This is also known, stop posting pictures of this error everywhere! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/467012106533863439/491523028027703308/unknown.png

Strek0za liked a post in a topic by MrXLink in Skylords Reborn Official Loot List
Greetings, Skylords, Skyladies, and Skyfolks!
Several years ago, I have asked you all for feedback on integrating a new Loot List (Where upgrades drop) in the game in this thread:
Giving the community 4 different options, it's impressive to say that almost 75% of the community wants different loot lists, so I have heeded your words and compiled a new list, based on the following regulations:
Due to popular demand, the main priority of the loot is thematic value; Loot will drop as much as possible in maps where you'd expect them to drop, and where it would make sense. This means a ton of lost units drop in Empire, and a lot of bandit units can be found in Blight, for example. Secondly, rare rewards are more likely to be found in more difficult maps (think Behind Enemy Lines, Guns of Lyr, Dwarven Riddle, etc.) Starter Deck card upgrades will drop in earlier maps, so that you don't have to unlock an entire sequence of maps in order to get a few starter cards upgraded. Wherever possible, I have tried to take map popularity into account, but due to lesser votes, this has not been the priority Rarity distributions per map are completely disregarded. The community has voted for thematic value and popularity, so it could very well be that some maps are way more rewarding than others. 12-Player maps will be completely removed from the loot system and reward gold only. Tutorial does not award any upgrades. Aside from the Advanced/Expert-only maps, All upgrades will drop consistently on the same map. Advanced/Expert only maps have their U1 upgrades scattered across other Standard maps, but all other maps will have the same loot no matter the difficulty. The loot list is currently set and is very unlikely to be subject to change anytime soon. If it changes in the future, we will let you know!
You can find the current loot list over here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oMsqJ1IMx8hied3W1ZRtQ5YbpgD2_kBezviNSmSovjM/edit?usp=sharing
Thank you all for your help in suggesting loot list improvements, and I hope you can all have a new, fresh experience with new upgrades to get in new ways!
EDIT: This loot list is still up-to-date and now contains upgrade drops for Lord Cyrian.

For missing utility softwares so you can actually launch the game. Run the program and it will automatically install everything needed. Restart your PC when done (I was missing most of these because of a fresh OS install).
Tl;dr
download Battleforge client -> download updater -> extract everything in the SAME FOLDER -> update your softwares and drivers with the links above or manually -> GGWP
