Do you have any idea of how to change where the replays are saved? Not sure why, but after the open stress test was pushed, my replays started saving in my admin's My Documents.

Would rather have the ease of moving files in and out of that folder by myself, instead of deleting them in-game or typing in the admin password each time.

If there is a way, then it's not immediately apparent to me.
You could create a folder junction from the command prompt (Start menu, type cmd to open the command prompt). The correct syntax is

    mklink /j from to

if I remember right. So for example

    mklink /j "c:\Users\Eirias\Documents\BattleForge\replays" "d:\replays"

would create a link for the default replays folder to your D drive. You can amend the quotation marks of course, if there are no spaces in the path.
Before doing the above, don't forget to either delete or rename the original folder (...\Battleforge\replays), otherwise you'll get an error message.

All files should then be accessible from the D:\replays folder.

  2. @Devilwarrior1699 Yes there is. That information is another guide I didn't ask Ross to move into the public area, as I thought demand will be low :)
    Here it is:

    Hey guys,

Some of you have a problem when running Battleforge in windowed mode, as there is no true borderless setting. Therefore if your screen is not capable of displaying a vertical resolution larger than 768 (e.g. 1366x768 or 1024x768) then the bottom of the gameplay area will be chopped off, due to the title bar adding another 27 pixels making the image 795 tall.

I found an application that is able to fix this, by allowing you to reposition the window (therefore hiding the title bar).

    1) download this file
    2) extract the contents (swru.exe) anywhere
    3) run swru.exe
    3) start Battleforge Reborn (make sure it's running in a window)
    4) select the resizing utility, then find and highlight Battleforge 1.2 retail
    5) now you need to play around with either or both x and y coordinates (horizontal and vertical positions)
Try setting y to -27 first, then press <enter> or Set Size in the bottom left corner. This should move the window up, hiding the title bar by placing it outside the display area.
(changing the x coordinate will move the window left or right, in case the edges are cropped and are not fully visible)

Try other settings if you're not 100% happy with the result e.g. Ultrakool replied that -29 worked best for him.

    • NAME: card reward not received on completing Defending Hope single-player mission
    • SEVERITY: 2
    • LOCATION: see above. got two card rewards, one appeared in the cards I owned whereas the other (Frost Mage) didn't
    • REPRODUCIBILITY: completed the map the second time around, however I'm not receiving any more cards as the reward supposed to only trigger the first time around
    • DESCRIPTION: see above
    • SCREENSHOT/VIDEO: searching for Frost Mage reveals no hits in cards owned, however system message notified me of receiving the card (no ss taken)
    • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I experienced no crashes shortly after this event, and the card is still not there after two successful login attempts
  3. You can set the resolution and full screen mode manually.

Go to c:\Users\<username>\Documents\BattleForge\ and open the config.xml using a text editor (e.g. notepad).

Search for the word "fullscreen" (without he quotation marks) and set its value to 1
Next or below it (depending on the text editor you're using) are screenheight and screenwidth. Type in the desired resolution e.g.:
    fullscreen="1" screenheight="1080" screenwidth="1920"

  4. Have you got razer synapse installed? If so, uninstall it and its sound driver then restart windows and let that install a default driver. That could solve the issue.

And/or press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC while on the desktop to open the task manager. Go to the fourth tab (Startup) and disable the Kraken software, if any. Then restart your PC.

Let me know how you're getting on.

  5. No, you shouldn't experience noticable lag once in-game. Could be your computer specs. Try setting all Graphics options to low or off from the settings menu, and see if that makes any difference.

Also make sure nothing is running in the background that can interfere with the game e.g. nvidia experience, AVG etc.

  6. Strange, maybe something is blocking it, or BF isn't compatible with your soundcard/drivers. Is your BF client intact? No files missing for sound?

Would you happen to know what sound card you got? If you don't, then press WIN+R while on the desktop, type in dxdiag and check the Sound tab(s) to find out.

Also have a look at sound settings: Go to Control Panel > Sound or open the Start menu and type in Sound to get to the same menu.
Under the Playback tab, double-click the default device (one with the green icon), select the Advanced tab and set format to 24bit 44.1k or 24bit 48k.

    Good luck.

  7. Have you guys disabled all your antivirus and antimalware applications?

If you're on Windows 10, open the start menu then type Maintenance. "Security and Maintenance" should come up as the first hit (blue flag icon). Click on it, then select the Security drop-down at the top. Then select View Installed Antivirus Apps. This'll give you a list of security software running in the background.
Leave this list open and disable all of them from their respective applications (from the taskbar where the clock is or any other way) until they all say Snoozed or Off. Don't worry about Windows Defender as that doesn't do squat and won't affect Battleforge.

  8. Try disabling antivirus and antimalware to begin with.

Also try copying a file (e.g. a small text file) to c:\Users\<username>\Documents\BattleForge\ as permissions to your C:\ drive might be an issue.

Another thing you could try is to go into your c:\Users\ folder, and right-click the folder with your username. Then do the following:
select Properties, Security tab, highlight your name from the top list and look at the checkmarks below. Full Control and Modify should be ticked.
If this is not the case then click Edit... and add the checkmarks. Apply settings, close down the window and try Battleforge again.

  9. I know of it, but I don't like the shmup genre. Xenon 2 is one of the exceptions I guess.

It's surprising how good Android is as a gaming device/platform, you can get lots of goodies on it e.g.

    - DOSbox (therefore all DOS games)
    - Nintendo DS, SEGA MD2, SNES, GB, GBA, N64, PSX etc. emulators
    - ScummVM (therefore most, if not all old-school adventure games)

And the whole thing fits in your pocket! There are also lots of full conversions - my latest addition to this list is OpenXCOM with full touch screen support. Nifty.

My good old NeoGeo ! Each time I had one game at the time because of the price. I can tell you I was more than mastering each game I had :)

We appreciated games a lot more back then. Nowadays there are dozens getting released each day, given away for free or heavily reduced in price.
I had a Game Boy and a Sega MD2, but only a handful or so games on both for the same reason - price. Couldn't take a chance on crappy games so I only bought the best acclaimed ones for each console e.g. Xenon 2 or The Chaos Engine. Ironically, the only game I bought on a whim and without any research was Puggsy, and it became my favourite game of all time from that era.
Way ahead of its time. Still play it to this day.

Is that Zool in your avatar?

At the moment I'm playing Battlezone, the re-release of a 20 year old game I loved, and Battleworlds Kronos, which reminds me a lot of a series of games called Battle Isle from more like 25 years ago. Oh, and Satellite Reign, which is a bit like the Syndicate games which are about as old. Nostalgia rules the day for me right now!

I'm also always in the middle of a selection from about 10 others like Baldurs Gate, NWN, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Bioshock, Pillars of Eternity.

Battlezone is also a big favourite mine. Are you referring to BZ2 Combat Commander that just got released? I'm on the fence about getting it, read some reviews regarding the A.I. that is worse than in the original. What's your experience been so far?
Totally forgot about Satellite Reign, I played an early version with very little content but I still remember the atmospheric art style. Maybe I should taken another stab at it.
Mass Effect and Dragon Age are pretty much the newer cornerstones of RPG :) I also love Arx Fatalis, give it a try if you liked Ultima Underworld or Deus Ex. Or any other immersive RPGs where you actually have to think for yourself.
I see you like strategy and RPG games, what did you think of Spellforce 3? Apart from the art style it did not woo me. Spellforce 1 is still far superior to most games released today.
Also try Divinity Original Sin 2 once you're done with NWN (there is a remaster coming out), BG and PoE.
Regarding Bioshock, as much as I liked the first, Singularity and Prey are so much better. Give them a try. Singularity costs peanuts nowadays. Prey has fantastic atmosphere, much like Bioshock had back in its heyday.

To progress the thread, my partner asked for a more mellow strategy game to play that has an economy system (so not Starcraft :P) and good graphics so I've gone through the Settlers series (she liked Cultures back in the day) and found Settlers 6. Never played it before, gave it a try before getting her a copy and I'm hooked. It's still a lot of fun after so many years. Feels great to find a good strategy game after all this time, as they are now a rarity.

Also currently (re)playing Dead Space, Red Dead Redemption, Condemned 2 and Alan Wake. Altman be praised.

  13. What puts it in perspective is when he talks about that timeline, how a move like this from a publisher would've been perceived let's say 15 years ago, in the golden age of gaming.
Whereas now this is the industry standard, more and more people accepting DRM as always-on and lack of dedicated public servers as the norm.

To be fair you could argue the fact that yes, you have paid for the game/product/service. However you also got your money's worth at the end of the day, and there is nothing to complain about. Especially if you played for free. On the other hand, gaming has sunk so low that people defend lootboxes nowadays.

I can sort of get with that, though at the same time it's a damn shame to see good games disappear with no accepted way of retaining them. Copy protection got really out of hand back in the day (remember starforce?) and now always-on DRM has taken over which is a lot worse and we can't do a lot about it. Cloud gaming is the next step, and the final nail in the coffin :jorne:
