    Hello Skylords, Skyladies and other Skybeings; and welcome to CCC #11 – the eleventh Crappy Community Contest!
     
    What are “Crappy Community Contests”?
    CCC's are meant to be small-scale contests with weird challenges, hopefully luring you away from well-trodden paths. They are small-scale on the organizers side too: there will be no stream, video, or event announcing the winners. What's special about these contests is a participation price for the whole Skylords community.
     
    What, when, where, how?

    While CCC's are now well known for varying gameplay contests, every once in a while it is time to do something for developing the community, like the Screenshot Contest, Contest-Contest or Card Idea contest (which even became official). And, to be honest, I have identified a real shame for our community – let's try to fix this together:
     
    Meme-fy BattleForge

    You see a barren land, void of any options.

    This challenge is to submit an animated GIF
    to get the community some BattleForge options for Discord.

    On our Discord there is a wide range of memes used, but there is not a single BattleForge or Skylords Reborn option on the GIF-Keyboard to chose from – literally NOTHING. I hope many of you agree that our beloved game has some meme-worthy content. You are allowed to enter with up to two different ideas.
    The only limitation placed on your ideas is that it must be an ANIMATION, so it fits the database (Tenor) that Discord is using. Here are some examples of what anyone could easily come up with (thanks to @Ultralord for helping with those!):
     
    By entering, you are giving permission to upload and use your entry on Tenor, as well as the SR Team using it on Social Media. Your entries will be judged by a well-known three-person jury: @Dutchy, @Majora and @Ultralord. The jurors will receive the entries from me in an anonymized format.
    If you submit two entries, you will receive only the highest tier prize. The contest has started with the release of this post – submit your entry through Discord (DM to Kapo#0116) or the Skylords Forum (DM to @Kapo) until 03.07.2023 23:59 CEST  (= 8 days time total). As already said, you may submit up to two entries.

    Since this is not just a Crappy Contest, but a Crappy Community Contest, you may help with your participation to earn a price for the whole Community. If we reach more than 15 participants (unique players, not entries), we will unlock a Mini-Booster code for the entire Skylords Community. So tell your fellow Skylords to submit and idea – it's an occasion to contribute to future events, and it raises our chances to hand out a code for everybody.

    Great greetings, people of the Sky
    Battle of Tactics goes into the fourth round. This time we are focusing on Twilight and the Transformation ability.
    Winners / Ranking / Stream recording:

    Rules:
    1.       You are only allowed to play Twilight cards.
              (Not the Edition Twilight, I mean Fire-Nature-Cards)
    2.       You are not allowed to play flying units.
    3.       You are only allowed to play one Affinity of a Card.
    4.       You can play every card only once.
              So if you play Slaver and he dies, you can not re-summon it. He is gone forever.
              Same goes for buildings and spells can only be cast once as well.
              --> But you can transform your Units as much as you like. <--
              When You transform you often get buffs. Also, transformation is cheaper than casting. (See FAQ)

    Of course, the website is optional! You can join without using it to check your replay.

    If some other veterans heavily disagree on something, I would love to hear some feedback. In general, it would be good if some veterans would register and start voting on stuff, so we get a baseline of decks that beginners may use.

    Now that the Community Decks Database has reached a passable state with the most recent updates, I wanted to create a separate post specifically for this feature.
     
    You can find the Community Decks Database here:

    It is currently possible to:
    Look up decks other users created (filter for different settings, like map and orbs order) Copy the deck code and import the deck directly ingame with the command " /importdeck [code] " Vote on decks that you liked or disliked (make it easier for new players to find enjoyable decks) See if the creator is a veteran or if veterans liked the deck Create your own decks directly on the website or import it from the code you got when using the " /exportdeck " command ingame Share your decks and set specific maps and other options that apply for the deck (even featured community maps can be selected) Set the complexity of the deck to show if they are beginner friendly or for veterans only, as well as other additional tags NEW: Add a short description of up to 500 characters (some characters are not allowed, to prevent abuse) Add a forum link to a post to explain in detail how the deck works, what to note when using the deck, or which cards can be swapped for others NEW: Edit your deck, change the maps it is intended for or update the tags Verify your account with your ingame name to show who created the decks Request to become a veteran player NEW: Veteran players are able to flag decks for inappropriate descriptions, this will cause the deck to not be able to be updated or deleted anymore until the issue has been reviewed and resolved with appropriate actions  
    Veteran Players are able to take some actions to flag a deck, the actions include:
    Flag a deck as "Outdated", for example when it's no longer playable due to orb requirement changes to the used cards.
    ("Outdated" tag is displayed if at least 3 veterans flagged the deck as such.) Remove the "Updated" tag from decks that were edited, if the deck still fits the rating, to prevent abusing the editing feature.
    ("Updated" tag is removed if at least 3 veterans flagged the tag for removal.) NEW: Flag a deck for "Inappropriate Description", this includes everything that is also not allowed on the forum. Once flagged this way, you are not able to remove your flag and the description will not be displayed for non-veterans anymore.
    ("Inappropriate Description" tag is added if at least 1 veteran flagged the deck as such.)  
    Please note:
    If you want to vote on decks or create and share your own decks, you will need to login with your discord account If you want to have your ingame name displayed for the decks you created, you can verify your account and your ingame name will be added If you want to become a veteran, the community and other veterans will need to agree, after which you will be added as a veteran  
    IMPORTANT: Deck descriptions have been a feature that has repeatedly been requested by multiple people, so please behave in what you write in the free text area or the feature will have to be rethought/removed again, if it is being abused too much. I am relying on your best behavior with this. 🙂
     
    You could also use this topic to reply with a comment to provide additional information for your deck, like YouTube links to videos that show your deck in action and don't want to create a separate topic just for your deck, to then add the link to your comment to the deck when adding it to the database. 🙂

    Very very good work, keep it up. The game is so much better now and will even get better in the future im sure. New PvE Campaign content, im hyped thats what im looking out for the most. And if you even get voice lines in to make it feel more alive, its WOW. Its a shame that no big Youtube game channels make some Videos about your game, because as now its slowly becomes a new game. Keep it up! 😉

    Greetings Skylords!
    A new month; a new Community Update! It's time to bring you up to speed with everything going on in Skylords Reborn!

    • Patch Overview Video
    Our latest patch, Nature's Awakening, has released! We have made a short overview video to celebrate the occasion, highlighting some of the changes we have made to the game. We hope you enjoy it, and be sure to share it with your friends!

    • Patch Feedback Thread
    As always, we highly value your feedback on the changes implemented in our latest patch. To facilitate this, we have once again created a dedicated feedback thread where you can express your thoughts about what you liked, disliked, and any other suggestions you may have.
    We kindly request that you provide constructive feedback regarding aspects you would like to see improved, while also sharing the elements you enjoyed. Your input is invaluable to us!
     
    • Voice Acting – Apply Now! 
    Back in October 2021 we initiated the search for voice actors to enhance the game with new voice lines. The new cards Amii Paladin and Banzai Lord were voiced by community members, bringing these characters to life. At that time, we had plans to expand the range of voice lines in the game further. Unfortunately, due to the absence of an audio editor, we faced limitations in what we could achieve, resulting in the regrettable need to even reject fully recorded lines. Consequently, voice-acting was temporarily put on hold.
    However, we are delighted to announce that we now have an Audio Editor on our team, and with our current focus on creating new campaign maps, we are once again actively seeking individuals who are interested in contributing their voices to Skylords Reborn!
    We are looking for a variety of voices (both male and female), and encourage everyone who is interested (and has a decent microphone!) to apply. You are also welcome to apply if you did so in the original application round in 2021! 
    To apply, fill in a brief survey to provide us with some information about yourself and select which characters you are interested in. We will be in touch with you for a trial script, and select our favourites from the provided recordings.

    • Art Spotlight – Bedrock
    In our Stonekin Deep Dive, we previously mentioned our plans for a new tier 4 Stonekin unit based on the Moloch model. Today, we are excited to offer you a sneak peek of this unit by unveiling the artwork we have created for it. Additionally, we would like to share some insights into the process our artist, Spirit Alpha, went through to achieve the final result.
     
    Sketch and Early Draft
    Spirit Alpha initiates his artwork by creating a sketch or draft, outlining the general ideas to establish the artwork's direction. For this particular piece, we aimed to capture the essence of a formidable Stonekin creature emerging from the water.

    It is important to consider the card frame when creating artwork. As you can see, while the left piece looks impressive on its own, the head partially falls off when placed within the card frame. This issue becomes even more apparent when displaying the creature type and charges in the game. This is why working with sketches and exploring various compositions is crucial before settling on a final design in Skylords Reborn.

    Settling on a Design
    Spirit Alpha explored several other options, some of which are highlighted below, while receiving feedback and suggestions from our art critiques along the way.

    The design on the right showcased the most potential, and work continued with that version. 

    Finalizing the Design
    Although we were fond of the design, feedback indicated that the head of the creature should be tilted to the right instead of the left.

    Throughout the process, Spirit Alpha also experimented with various designs for the creature's belly, ranging from a nearly fully closed appearance to a more open one.

    Colour Scheme
    Ultimately, we opted to retain a more closed design, and significant effort was invested in ensuring that the card followed the Stonekin colour scheme, preventing it from potentially resembling a Frost unit.


    Final Adjustments
    Spirit Alpha submitted his final design, and our lead artist, Tweeto, made some last minor adjustments to produce the final artwork. One of the modifications involved tilting the "volcano" slightly to ensure it remained within the card frame. Can you identify the other changes?

    We are extremely pleased with the final outcome of Bedrock and sincerely hope that you can appreciate the dedication and effort that went into its creation. A heartfelt appreciation goes out to Spirit Alpha for his hard work!

Welcome both, and thank you for your contribution! 
    More than a year after the position was first listed, we have found an Audio Editor in Discoheart! He will be able to help us out with the needed editing for adding new voice lines into the game, both for cards and upcoming campaign maps. We are glad to have him, and excited to continue adding new voice lines into the game.

    update:
    - fixed next price data load time indicator
    - fixed reforging value for common cards (added a hard modifier that results in accurate values, even though a different modifier/formular would be more correct)
    - added new card Sleet Storm (other card changes that happened with the recent patch will follow at a later date)
    - updated card creator page titel
    - updated basic card image to now have card names on them everywhere on the website
    - updated card tooltips to now be switchable to show fewer details (your preference is stored in your browser) and adjusted the size to not cause visual glitches anymore on Full HD screen sizes (also, added Protector's Seal to show differences to the other version in the tooltips, even though they are of different colors)
    - added user account database to store user related data, accessible through a new option in your user menu (at the moment it will only store your publicly available Discord ID and your ingame name if you verify it, more will follow at a later date, like storing your personal website settings that are currently stored in your browser)
    - updated the community decks page with:
    added pagination controller to the top of the table as well (standard number of decks per page was changed to 10) creator ingame name (if the creator created an account entry in the user database and verified their ingame name) veteran indicator for the creator and the votes of a deck, to show if a veteran player created a deck or voted on a deck (the community decides whether or not someone should be considered a veteran player)

    Thoughts on the many quality of life features released with the patch?

    I think you almost take away from them by calling those things QoL features, because some of the improvements touch the game to its core (like the solo pausing). I know card balances are mega important, but from a player perspective, since the magical UI dev started to work, the game got SO MUCH BETTER. 
      New card feedback

    Maybe I don't understand where it's meant to be used, but I find it so underwhelming that I'm quite sure I'm missing something. It looks great, but I dont see the use-case. Especially, the wind-up time of 5 seconds feels incredibly long. I would lower that significantly, but If this is needed for PvP reasons (?), then maybe add a damage component or debuff for those units that got caught.
      How does Nature rPvE feel? June MotMs will be set to Nature if you have not been able to play it much yet. 

    Great. Stranglehold is a real pain, but it makes the first camp unique that you have to work around that. Voices that say it needs to be removed just want to keep playing the same as they always did on a different preset, so I think it should stay because it gives you something to do. If you have no idea besides getting one unit strangled to death, so be it, when you focus the Stranglehold down only one unit will die.

    I agree on already stated feedback (on Discord I think?) that some bosses still need a special something, especially the Elder, the Wyrm and the Razor. For the Razorleaf I would suggest that the boss heals more the more support it receives, to force players to destroy at least a part of the root structure first before being able to kill him. That's more interesting than just buffing its damage.

    And one small detail, the root nexus is sometimes placed so weirdly in the early camps that XL-units can't attack it. 
      Opinions on balance changes?
      We tried to add several improvements to T1 & T2 through both buffs/reworks and reducing card orb requirements

    I think it was a great idea, especially Wallbreaker and the nexus support on T1. 
      Current balance between the various void return methods

    I was an advocate of the SoW change from the start, and I'm glad it happened. But I was reading on the lack of void return on rainbow decks. Maybe something can be done about this, Sunken Temple + Furnace was mentioned, but that doesn't feel right to me. Maybe something else can be explored? Furnace is fine, but the Temple just feels wrong.
      How does Stonekin feel post-patch?
      Do towers feel like they are in a good place (minus the still-pending changes announced months ago) All in all, a great patch. 
    The thing the bothers me the most right now are performance issues that seem to be connected to the UI. After the game has been on for a while - no matter if active playing or just running in the background while I'm working, the menu where you place yourself at a map position gets abysmally slow. Sometimes I forget to restart for a while, try to join a rPVE 9, and after I joined the match, until I am able to click anything more than a minute has passed in a frozen state and all spots have filled up already.

    I dont mean this as personal critique, more as an exploration to whats might be up with some complaints: Could it be that for many of us, our gaming experience is centred around maps and cards we know in and out for many years, so if something new (in this case: new expert maps to conquer) comes up we are not used to get a punch in the face from an expert map any more?
    Many newbies (to the game as a whole) say things like "cant make the big Soultree wave, how is this even possible?" and we answer "LOL git gud" - and now we aren't used any more to be in the same situation, so it gets frustrating pretty quickly?

    What is Advanced Filtering?
    Your card collection has clickable filters like rarity, orb colour, and more. But there is also an extremely powerful search bar that accepts special commands to filter your cards. Below you will find a list of all those commands with some explanations. (Please note, due to the necessary formatting, this article will look weird on mobile devices.)


     
    Basic Filters

    Size and Counter types: `S`, `M`, `L`, `XL`, `special` (special is used for buildings or magic)

    Number Range Filters
    Operators:
         
    power + number range                                       e.g.: `power>300` damage + number range  e.g.: `damage>500` health + number range  e.g.: `health>500` upgrade + number range e.g.: `upgrade<3` to show cards that are missing an upgrade charges + number range  e.g.: `charges<3` to show cards that are missing a charge copies + number range  e.g.: `copies>4`  to show what to reforge ID + number range (mostly for internal/development use and for the search in market feature)
    Combining Filters

    Operators:
          
          
    Logical OR matches at least one of the filters. If one is matching and the other is not, it will return a result.
    Logical AND has to match both filters. Only if both conditions apply will it return a result.
    Logical NOT inverts the result. Beware that not all filters can be inverted, that's why it may be advisable to use !(filter).
    Wrapping the filter with `( )` does not change it in any way, but allows easier organization.
     
    Error Tolerance

    ? Name
    ?<number> Name
    The question mark will help you to search a text with error tolerance. If you know the card name, but you are not sure about spelling, you may use this. You can also use ?<number> to specify the error tolerance you want, e.g. 'name?5' for up to five typos in the name. If you do not specify the tolerance level, level 3 will be used.

    “?Light blade” will find “Lightblade” even though the search input had a space in it – “?1Light blade” would also work (because it only contains just one typo).
     
    Custom Filters
    *name*
    You can create any custom filter you want, `Documents\BattleForge\custom_filter_extensions.json` contains some examples.
    In-game you can use `*name*` (where `name` is the name of the custom filter), e.g.: *shiny* 
    Note: Numbers [0-9] are not allowed for naming custom filters.
     
    Market Place Filtering
    Advanced Filters also work on the marketplace – for example, if you want to see all cards that you do not own yet, you can use 'copies<1' to find out:

    charges=3 & copies>1          Something you might want to sell on the market

    It messed up a lot of decks I guess, but that change was long overdue in my opinion. The best void return as the only one requiring one orb just doesn't make any sense design-wise.
    If you want to stay with Shrine of War, for many decks this also forces people to use the faction-specific sustain options (e.g. Bloodthirst) instead of going Fire-Shadow-Shadow-Nature all the time to slap Regrowths, Equilibriums and Revenges onto already powerful decks.
